The rice rolls prepared with a bunch of sauces is 混酱肠粉. I had it in Hong Kong and was initially confused by the different flavors but then quickly came to love it!
@marcc1830
@marcc1830 2 жыл бұрын
I think the more common name for it is 街邊腸粉/街頭腸粉 or something along that line. Usually the regular 腸粉 in a restaurant have meat (pork, chicken or beef) or shrimp in them. The Street version is more or less kind of street snack with a mixed of Hoi Sen and Seasame source, hence it comes with the big "toothpick" because you don't have chopstick when you are on the street. The place you went to (like many places in Hong Kong) love to play with the pronounciation that sound like something humorous or swear word. Mix source 混酱 has the same pronouciation as 混帳 which transliterated to "mixed accounts" but is use colloquially express bullcrap or nonsense, yeah accounting swear words, how stereotypical Asian can one get 🤣. Many time, especially in Hong Kong Style (western food) restaurant the menu item uses swear words sounding item. eg. A drink that mix Ribena and 7up is call 利賓七(Riben-7) but it sound like "You stupid d**k" in cantonese. Some get offended by the bawdy humor, most laugh it off.

Hope though there wont be any lockdown ofc :)

Hi Amy, the rice roll you had is usually called 斋肠 (plain rice roll), as opposed to rice roll with stuff inside. Usually you can choose from a number of sauces, including soy sauce, sesame sauce, seafood sauce and spicy sauce. XO sauce fried rice roll is also a really good dish. Please try it some time.

The tastes like Chinese cuisine from back home topic is quite Interesting Lol coming from Italy, before moving to China 3 years ago, Chinese food was very broadly represented in my mind by Shanghai/Zhejiang cuisine, because most of the Chinese immigrants at that time came form Wenzhou 😄 there’s the occasional Cantonese but a lot of Italians don’t associate Chinese food with char siu, baozaifan, or even dim sum at all (which is a pity!). In 2022 of course things are different, at least in major cities.

Rice Rolls: 腸粉. If you do make your way to South East Asia (SG and MY), we call it 豬腸粉. The main difference is that the Cantonese Style would sometimes come with Fillings such as Char Siew, Prawns, Eggs and etc. Whereas in SEA, it is usually served without filling but with different types of sauces. You can have it with Sweet Sauce, oil, and light soy sauce. And sometimes you can have it drenched in Curry. And the Sauce / Gravy / Soup with rice is oh so good. Which is one of the reasons Rice is great.
@xuhuang648
@xuhuang648 2 жыл бұрын
In China, the rice rolls in the video just called 猪肠粉😂,which is the same as it in South East Asia. The 猪肠粉 in Guangdong and in South East Asia is the same, but with different sauces. As for 肠粉, or more precisely, 拉肠粉/布拉肠粉, is literally a different kind of food, which is exactly what you described in the comment: with the filling such as prok, beef, egg and etc.
