I've been asked a few questions as to how I was able to study abroad at Kyoto University, how I applied for exchange, and for some tips for applications... so I tried my best to address them in this video!
I didn't really discuss finances/costs of study abroad in Japan because I felt like the video would've gotten too long! Would y'all be interested in a separate video that covers this topic?

I found your channel via UT’s Japanese Language Program website. I’m not a student at the school, I’m in community college because of my disability. A symptom of it is Dyscalculia, which makes it very difficult to be competitive in the transfer process. I’m working as hard as I can to get into UT Austin to pursue a CS (Computer Science) degree and to enter the Japanese Language Program. Great work on your content, I love every aspect of Japan and this series gave me a better idea of how it may play out!

Hi! I'm not a student at UT (I am applying there soon though!), but I do know I want to study abroad in Japan during college at some point. I know you didn't go into detail about the finances/costs in your video, but (if you can) can you briefly go over the costs of tuition for going abroad? I'd def be interested in a video about it! For my second question, I know you mentioned you took two semesters of Japanese prior to going abroad, how well did it prepare you for going to Japan? Did you have any particular trouble with getting around and communicating with locals? I just want to say you seem super cool and your videos have been really cute and helpful!! Thank you so much for documenting your experience and sharing it with others

Thank you so much for watching!! I actually do plan on making a separate video on finances and hopefully find some still relevant resources for future study abroad students! As for the two semesters of Japanese, I would say it helped a bit but I had some difficulties (like setting up my bank account or during some of my band practices where I would just get completely lost). The two semesters definitely helped get my foot out there but I do wish I had known some more Japanese (especially of Kansai dialect). For the most part, though, I would say that I lucked out because my friend group had like two basically fluent Japanese speakers (who could also translate to us) but getting around most of Kyoto was not bad with what Japanese I had!

Hello! Would you happen to have information regarding graduate studies in Kyoto? I've been trying to read their webpage but it's proven to be a real challenge. If you have a general idea of the application process I'd be really grateful!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply, I’m actually not sure about the graduate studies at Kyoto Uni😞 I know that there were a few MEXT people there but that was about it. Apologies for not being of much help 😞 You’ve probably been to this site but this is the best I can find for now: www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/about/publications/admissions-guide-for-international-applicants

If it’s for the Exchange program then yes there are English courses for engineering majors! If it’s not for the exchange program then I’m not sure. Not sure if you’ve seen this site yet but it might have some used information: www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/about/publications/admissions-guide-for-international-applicants

Hey! I want to study in Kyoto University for my bachelor degree. I am going to give my class 12 boards by March 2023 so could you please tell me when should I prepare for my application process? And, secondly I want to tell you that I come from a middle class family so will it be very much expensive for me as an international student to study there? I hope you response to my query. Thank you.

Hello! I’m not sure how the international bachelors program works but hopefully this can help: www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/about/publications/admissions-guide-for-international-applicants and then in terms for finances, I was able to receive the JASSO scholarship which helped finance my study abroad. I believe you can also try to apply for the JASSO for undergraduate then MEXT for graduate. Hope it helps a bit!

It depends there is the kuinep course for undergrad and ger for graduates, i think she took the japanese class program. To look for it you can check your uni requirements, its different per uni. To contact your prof you can check your admission website there should be some sort of contact, or you can ask your friends. If you want to apply now its for spring 2022 the course u should be considering is for kuinep, english courses.

Hi! I’m sorry for the late reply! I did the KUINEP program at Kyoto Uni, meaning that I was an exchange student for only a semester. All my classes, except for Japanese language, were in English! However, I do not know the application process for a regular international undergraduate student (4 years). This link is for their admissions and has several PDFs/information: www.kyoto-u.ac.jp/en/about/publications/admissions-guide-for-international-applicants Best of luck!!✨
