So as someone that has followed you for a long time, especially on Instagram, I honestly am so blown away by how mature Milo is about being taken away from home. You guys are such a good example of how patience and consistency will pay off. I also hope people notice that you are constantly evolving your tack and gear to make Milo as comfortable as possible. Thanks Shelby! Keep it up!

I full seat most of the time as well for the same reasons! I was taught to "rock back" in the tack because my horse sometimes will refuse jumps

Emily Copley same! I need to full seat at least three strides before each jump because I use my seat a lot, and I am now use to it. Also I use to ride a horse that will stop before the jump usually, and I will impulse him to jump with a deep seat before the jump

Here it's never really seen to do anything but full seat... We are taught to always stay behind the horse until they actually jump up. I do feel like sometimes this causes riders to fall behind, but then again we are taught to let go of the reins if we do get behind. It's fun to see others get taught differently

I'm not Shelby, but I can help I believe! I have a solution of sugar water in a spray bottle, and I spray it on the bit right before I put it in the horse's mouth. They soon associate the sweet taste with the bit and will grow to love it. My horse practically eats his bit now lol

I get so confused by Hunter classes. Im from GErmany and I believe they are becoming a thing here too, but normally at our shows we only have dressage and show jumping (at least at smaller locations) and I always got tought to sit completely in the saddle in the last strides before a jump. But my mare also was quite an enthusiastic (but unsure) horse, so she got quite fast before a jump but also needed the reassurement that she was able to take this jump. So if I would be in a half seat leading up to a jump she would just get faster but also then stop before the jump because I didnt encourage her enough. Basically I needed to get her to collect her canter a little and have her know that I believe in her. She was such an amazing horse...

What’s some good ways to relax more in English?? I’m mainly a barrel racer and other speed events person but I do enjoy English. With western the term “melt like an ice cream cone is easy because I can really tuck and loosen up my legs. But for English my trainer always had me with short stirrup leathers and heels cranked down, and mold yourself to the horse by holding. Maybe I’m not strong enough yet but I find it so difficult to do it unless I have longer leathers. So tl;dr, how can I relax under hunter/jumper circumstances??

@user8241
@user8241 4 жыл бұрын
Have you got good riding boots? If there not proper it will hurt to have them down properly but if you get some good Flexi ones it will be easier. Just keep thinking every 5-10 minutes, are my heels down?
@Milestone-Equestrian
@Milestone-Equestrian 4 жыл бұрын
Heels down really isn’t an issue to focus on. People become so wrapped up in the aesthetics of it and then it loses function. You just want weight in your heels to help support your hip and leg and absorb shock but beyond that it really doesn’t matter and when people have them so far down the heel hyperflexes, it loses function

If you were to board would you recommend 24/7 turnout or a barn with a stall?
@Milestone-Equestrian
@Milestone-Equestrian 4 жыл бұрын
Gecko Lord 24/7 turnout is always going to be more natural/ healthier for the horse if you have an option. If I ever had to board again, I wouldn’t board anywhere where my horses would be in a stall with no free access to a paddock. Field with a shelter is much more preferable and I wouldn’t board anywhere long term that doesn’t do group turnout and have turnouts big enough for the horses to run in.
@strangecreature4125

That looks so fun! Your tack is gorgeous!! But I have 2 things to annoy you with: 1. Why do people clip their horses and leave patches? And why are the patches different? 2. Do you do anything when you are about to jump to let the horse know when to jump? Stay safe and healthy!! :D
@Milestone-Equestrian

Strange Creature he’s body clipped in areas where he’d sweat the most so that he dries off faster through the winter
@skyequestrian
@skyequestrian 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I can answer your first question. There are different types of clips to do different things. In some cases someone may clip the whole body except the underside of the neck and the chest (called a bib clip) to prevent sweat buildup, and in other cases someone may clip all but the legs because the thick hair protects the legs from cuts. There's many different types of clips. Does that answer your question? Ha ha have a great day!
