You should even keep 4 budgies,bc. they are swarm animals! Very pity that you only talk about this taming-matter ---> in relation with the DIFFICULTY y having more than 1! Please rather stress that 1 budgie is animal plight! So there is no "more difficult with 2", bc. 1 budgie alone is morally FORBIDDDEN!

@angelaaguo9 жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, there are factors that affect the amount of time it takes. First of all, young birds are a lot easier to tame, and it just gets harder as they age. Second, it depends on the BREED. A zebra finch would be a lot more difficult to work with than a Cockatiel for example. Finally, the number of birds living in the same area as well as their relationships with each other also play a role. So these are the factors that will impact whether your bird will take just a day to be tame or even a year

I am going to try this out! I will leave honest updates about how it is going for me. Day 1: I started talking to my budgie, and at first she stood still and watched me, but then started to move about the cage like I wasn’t there. I think that’s good? Day 4: They started getting a bit more comfortable, but still not showing any trust towards me. I have just started talking with the door open Day 7: I started sticking my hand into the cage at the bottom. They seem to be getting more used to me, but are still sometimes flinching when I walk by. Day 11: My bird is starting to get more comfortable. I can almost put my hand right up to her, but I need to wait. Day 14: I put my hand in the cage as they were flying around being crazy, and one actually flew on my finger! Several times actually. They are still not completely comfortable though. Day 16: My bird actually sat on my finger and ate from my hand! Twice! Although they only seem to trust me when I have food, so I need to work on that.

I think the moral of the story is one of hard work and ever-lasting patience. It is unreasonable to expect your bird to feel comfertable around you in a few days, or even a few weeks for that matter. A lasting, and moreover trusting, relationship can take months to develop, but the hard work always pays off.
@Pianda9 жыл бұрын
how can you speak of "your bird" Didn't you realize that you may never ever only keep one budgie? They must live in a flock, even 2 is too little! See: "majestic parrots".....how birds live in nature. That is their paradigm and heritage. They suffer so much having no partners. If you do not see how sad - and really brought about everything - the expresson of Bibi is, but only talk of taming, I doubt that you ever see the signs of creatures, at least not of "your" bird. DON'T ever hold single budgie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He will NEVER feel comfortable! BTW: no plastic, no mirror, no bought bars! I think, one has to tell every American singularly
@johnparks69369 жыл бұрын
Is this in response to my comment? I don't understand... I only stated that birds take time to get comfortable with their humans and that we should never do anything to force ourselves upon them, but rather take baby steps and always keep the bird's comfort our #1 priority. I certain don't agree, however, that a holding one bird is bad, if that's your point... They can and will feel comfortable if the training is adequate. In fact, I personally feel that having more than one of any kind of bird may distract them and hinder their own progress. If one spends ample time with their bird such that they are always engaged and content with their lives, they would never feel the need for a companion.
@johnparks69369 жыл бұрын
Again, I notice yet another misguided comment... To start off, my assertion that birds should be held (and loved) doesn't equate to meanness of any kind. Likewise, I never once stated that I'm "perfect" in any way or that I "know everything." In fact, I'm a firm believer that we should aspire to keep an open mind and learn new things from others everyday. If you have any specific concerns, though, please do let me know and I'll gladly offer a rebuttal.

Read that, if you take this vid as a standard, you are TOTALLY wrong! ---> never ever keep a single budgie! This is ABSOLUTE animal cruelty! In this vid there are NO: - partners. But budgies are swarm-animals and urgently need same-breed-partners, 4 is better than 2 budgies! - no branches ...BUDGIES NEED branches as natural stuff to pick at, fly and land on, branches are also physiologically important - the bought bars hurt and damage the feet of this poor budgie - he gets PLASTIC! Which bird likes plastic? NO SINGLE ONE - perhaps no flight. Budgies need free flight all day! --------------------> so, this vid is a typical American vid! It's made from people that have lost any relation gto nature and the creature! This bird urgently wants to: - kiss and tell - quarrel - clean - fly ......with partners! In a surrounding with lots of fresh branches, herbs, leaves -------> Instead he is isolated like a slave and sits alone in a cage with bought perches and plastic! This bird has NOTHING in her life of what she wants and needs! So, please, google about the swarm-property of budgies, see vids of kissing and telling budgies ----------> and get clear: if you want a slave and a cheap pet that you will only force to focus on YOU, Yourself.than you are letting your animal SUFFER and you are an ANIMAL ABUSER! Angela, please, inform ----> change the conditons TOTALLY and then write a text on your vid, how SORRY you are: - for having let this budgie suffer for a long time - so intensely - and have created sort of FALSE STANDARD for others! Such sources make me very sad....bc. of this enormous plight ppl are willing to load upon their "pets" YOU MUST REALIZE THAT YOU ACTUALLY KNOW THAT THIS BUDGIE IS KEPT TOTALLYWRONG! AND that she cannot be a budgie...she can only with partners! And YOU DO this to her, every second...and then you pretend to LOVE your bird....but the opposite is true, if you let all her needs unfulfilled!

You could try putting food in your hand instead of his food bowl. That way when it's dinner time the only choice he's got is to go near your hand. After he's eaten some from your hand put the rest of his food in the bowl. Do this every day. Food is the best way to an animals heart. If your hand = food then it = happiness like said in the video :) Slow movements are good too as sharp sudden movements will scare them.

So for those who want a solution just invest some more money and bring a cockatile, a much much more better and intelligent bird that could become tamed 1/100 thee way of taming a budgie. @WhiteWolfos8 жыл бұрын
green.brown.blue The bird I'm referring to is a wild sparrow. Budgies are more social and if you bought it from a breeder instead of the trees they are more used to people up close from the beginning. Birds are also different so I do think that their env factors, traumas, age, socialness and fear and your methods +environment you show them affects how fast they warm up to people. There were alot of cats, cars and sparrow-eating crows in my area so the birds in my house were already predisposed to added stress. I cannot leave them at the window or they will go berserk because the predators will try to catch them.

Oh my gosh! You have a lot of patience! You're so great. My mom bought 2 budgies about 3 weeks ago, they've been in the house but I didn't pay attention to them for the first 2 weeks and they've never been in my room during that time so after that i decides to take them to my room and take care of them. It is their 4th day in my room, they're still kind of scared of me but even from the first day they starting eating on my hands coz I hold my hand for too long in front of them while holding their food so they eventually came and ate on my hand. But they're still so scared of me and it takes them really long to come and eat on my hand and they keep hesitating. I feel like the last time I fed them today was so much better it doesn't take them that long and they don't hesitate that much, they just come for the food and I was so happy that snowy was slightly buting my finger and also put one of her legs on my finger, she didn't play with my hands before and she was so naughty and hard to get friendly. I was worried if I just hand feed them like that they won't go any steps further and won't learn more, or maybe they won't step or fly toward me so i was worried.. Gosh and it has only be 4 days they're with me. After seeing this video I'm like oh my gosh they're actually doing pretty well and they're fast I just didn't know the process could be so slow so I was in a hurry and was worried if they wouldn't get comfortable with me and won't get used to me if I don't pay a lot of attention to them. Thank you for the video! I'll try to be more patient

I tried everything else and can't get my budgie to come out :( I can hand feed him Miller and stuff but I feel like there are missing gaps of trust... So I will start this method today and hope it works out!! Maybe I just need to go through the few days at the beginning of reading and holding my hand out for him to slowly get used to those things :)

I will also read Harry Potter too to stay on the safe side :)

+TheRoshan89 My bird hates coming out of the gates in the front of his cage, but has no problem with me taking the top off to take him out. I'd try that, if your cage has that option. I think birds just hate to be lowered instead of raised. :3

I got my parakeet, he seems about 6 months old and I used these steps and trained him in just two days. Great video. He will now eat food from my hand at anytime, and he will perch too. He won't yet come out of his cage, but its a work in progress!

I like your patience but I got two semi baby cockatiels not hand raised - scared as hell - I am not patient and it's now day 3 and they are stepping up and wanting to be on me when in the cage. I often think we are a bit TOO precious around birds. They are like dogs with wings. They adapt quickly. People are too scared for their bird to hate them but if you are hand feeding them you HAVE to grab them. I'm not dissing your technique - I'm just saying after day 31 I'd go mental. They want out of the cage - they step up on my finger. They want love - they step up on my finger. I'm not strict but talking and loving them while in the cage after 3 days is working a treat.

Budgies are a lot different. They are a lot more skittish. The smaller the bird the more skittish they are. It took me 6 months to even get remotely close to my budgies. It took me 30 minutes of having my cockatiel home he was already cuddled up on me.

don't try to get close to the cage, as it is obviously afraid. Just walk by the cage, gently throw a treat inside his cage, and move away. repeat this consistent till you notice it becomes comfortably when you are around the cage, work from there. Now the bird knows : hey if he walks by something good is about to happen. Then he will slowly gaining trust in you. Go at the birds pace

However one of them got out of the cage and I had to cup my hands around him to bring him back into his cage and he bit me. Usually their bites don't hurt. They usually choose flight over fight so don't be scared! ♥️

I used to have a very tamed bird. One day i was visiting my dad and he came home with a bird that he had found on the street being attacked. I sat down with him and put my hand in the cage. He sat on my finger the first day. I was happy that he trusted me as that was my first time i ever touched a bird. I begged my mom to keep him and sure enough i did. He was an adult. He was white and few spots on his cheek. I grew very attached to me and he did too. A lot of hard work put in to his training and it paid off. He would come to my hand when i called his name. Sadly, 8 months later and my baby boy passed. I don't want to talk about how he passed but he was my best friend and helped me with a lot of things. I miss him very much.

You really shouldn’t start the training process that soon. The birds need at least 5 days to a week to get accustomed to your home and the noises it makes. Start the process after your birds are comfortable in their environment.

GUYS IT DOESNT TAKE 50 DAYS IF YOUR BIRD IS YOUNG. Ok i am still taming mine, but i got my budgie three days ago and now i can already put my hand in the cage, really close to him, without him flying away. This is what I did- 1st Day: Just sit next to it often and speak to it. 2nd Day: Touch the cage next to where your bird is so it gets used to your fingers. 3rd Day: Start trying to put your hand in the cage slowly while calmly speaking. I will update.

Some birds just need more time to relax and get used to a new enviroment. As long as they have a roomy cage, is it really so bad to give them extra time to adjust? It's not like Angela G. just ignored their budgie all this time and never gave them toys or something.

They don't get on our hands with out treats yet but its been about a 10 days now. Also when you first get your birds it takes them a couple days just to get used to their new surroundings ( let alone a big hand being shoved at them) You did a great job (don't even acknowledge the negative comments)...best of luck to you dear...🐦
