Күн бұрын

In this powerful talk, celebrated Australian author and actress Magda Szubanski uses lessons from her Nazi-fighting family to explore where courage originates. She asks if there is such thing as intergenerational courage, and if so, did it help her to help win a 21st-century civil rights battle? Magda Szubanski is an Australian actress best known for her portrayal of Mrs Hoggett in the film Babe and its sequel Babe: Pig in the City. She also created Sharon Strzelecki from blockbuster sitcom Kath & Kim, the most successful comedy in Australian television history. Other film credits include The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course, alongside the Steve Irwin and The Golden Compass, with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.
One of Australia’s most loved entertainers for more three decades, Magda had a crucial role in the complex and challenging 2017 Same-Sex Marriage Survey. Her efforts were critical to the Yes vote’s win. She was named the Most Talked About Person of 2017 and is considered one of the 2018 Game Changers by Vogue Australia. She was awarded the 2017 Voltaire Award for free speech.
She is also a best-selling award-winning author, following the release of her acclaimed memoir Reckoning. She is currently working on a book about the Same Sex Marriage campaign that draws on themes of intergenerational courage. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I just watched this with anxiety, fear and the same nervousness that you started with in your speech. You have put into words that so many LGBTQI individuals feel! Thank you for the wonderful bravery you have given us, and thank you for the opportunity your selflessness has given others!! ❤️

I've just finished reading Reckoning. It is a really beautiful, heart-wrenching and soulful story of Magda's discovery of herself and her father. Thanks for sharing yourself and showing the light for others, Magda.

I looked up Magda bc I have been watching and enjoying her performance as Sharon in Katy and Kim. Her role is so brilliant and though it is an over the top comedy, she adds an honest and beautiful vulnerability to character-one that we can all connect too. The more I learn about her, the more I have love her!!! Thanks for sharing such an awesome character with me and a moving and motivational story!!!!

To thyself be true! Thank you for sharing your story and for giving us the confidence to be our own kind of "courageous". The truth will always reveal itself so if we are living a lie and not being true to our soul's purpose it will keep haunting us until we do. Our bodies and minds that coexist will never be at peace until then. You can't force a rose to be a lily. Full marks Magda. Go Girl! May the rest of your soul's journey be filled with peace and love. xo :-)

I first discovered Magda on Farscape as Furlow. I thought she was an amazing character and my favourite from the show, didn't expect to see her again and then Kath and Kim happened and I almost couldn't believe it was the same actress. She's great. Love her to bits.

A shallow statement indeed. One can tell a lot about about someone by what they choose to see in a person. And one can never expect to have a deep relationship with a shallow person. You have my complete pity.
