I love watching these kind of videos. I’ve been hauling fuel for about a year and a half now. It’s my first legit truck driving job. Made $109k in my first year at 24 years old. Getting my CDL was the best thing I’ve done for myself. Stay safe out there driver

Thanks for sharing this video. I have 4.5+ years of Class A CDL driving but very little hazmat tanker experience. Most places near me want 1-2 years of tanker or fuel experience before considering me. I'm thinking of doing some OTR Tanker Hazmat work for a bit just to get that experience, even though I already have a good understanding of gravity drops from my brief time wethosing. Thank you for sharing this video, btw. I really appreciate it.

You must do a few things differently in the states I see a few things that could be problematic in your delivery... connect to ground first then trailer.….vapor recovery? Opening internal valve after you open faucet handle to check if internals are functioning correctly...and switch diesel to super ground first then trailer

Really interesting video and I’m intrigued by all of this. I’m 2 years out from retirement of my military service and just trying to get ideas for my next career. Is it hard to get your CDL and tanker endorsement? I know how to drive a manual transmission, but 6 gears is most I’ve ever used and hauling a 54’ trailer seems a little scary. Easy to learn? The job itself as a tanker driver, do you enjoy it? I noticed on your soundings of the tank that you don’t use any indicating paste, or was that cut out? I’m used to pumps, tanks and soundings on ships. Not sure if the terminology is the same. Haha anyway sorry for my long comment. Thank you for your video and any advice that you may have.

Obviously you are seasoned, but my only critique for you new fuel haulers is that until you get very comfortable I would ALWAYS put my product hose on my fitting before hooking it up to a trailer compartment & same rule applies when he switches from diesel to premium. The diesel compartment is now empty so remove the ground fitting & place it on the premium drop then switch the from the diesel compartment to premium on the trailer. If you’ve been doing this awhile we all know it takes on phone call, one pedestrian, or one brain fart to cross drop a product into the wrong tank. It’s just an extra step of caution so you can prevent either a call to hazmat relief or your dispatchers. Cheers 🍻
@Life-On-18-Wheels
@Life-On-18-Wheels 5 ай бұрын
I understand what you are saying but what difference does it make if you hook the hose on the drop first then on the trailer? Why is that so important to do so.. just because maybe you would open the valve before hooking it on the drop? That's why you always double-check before you open the valve.. you can easily cross drop by simply putting the drop on the tank first, then hooking it up to the wrong compartment on the trailer.. that's why you ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK... so it doesn't really matter if you hook up to the trailer first or ground first. Just DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE YOU OPEN VALVE..
@jacobyoung8416
@jacobyoung8416 5 ай бұрын
@@Life-On-18-Wheels I’d say the difference is you’re looking at it from a seasoned fuel hauler perspective. When I train guys I just want them to work in a way that can prevent spills & cross drops. Think about when you were new to fuel & how much you really have to think about & how much responsibility it actually is once you get to throwing those hoses. I’ve seen a lot of my trainee’s get wet because they moved the hose from compartment to compartment without shutting off a valve & that’s minor, but you just hope from a trainer’s perspective that you’re giving your trainee’s the tools to be successful & not have to deal with the headaches of the job. Veteran guys have been there done that so don’t you want to pay it forward so new guys don’t have to go through the same mistakes we did? It’s just an extra precaution is all. To each their own.. like I said I’m not saying what you’re doing is wrong by any means! There’s a bunch of different ways to haul gas.. but if what I said makes sense to somebody & makes them more comfortable down the line then it was my pleasure. Again brother I think what you’re doing is great! All productive conversation here & no malicious intent sir 🤝🏼

I feel like u should use one specific hose for each gas. Because when u use the same hose that different a gas was just flowing through, that gas is going inside a different gas tank and might get contaminated, thats why I think that big crack is in the ground and gases are slowly leaking out
@Life-On-18-Wheels
@Life-On-18-Wheels 10 ай бұрын
No the Crack is from heavy tankers over the years pulling in to unload... if you had 7,500 gallons of gas and 1 gallon of diesel in a hose do you think that 1 gallon will contaminate it?? I don't think so... when that product finishes there probly ain't a 20 bottle of whatever I just got done unloading that is in the hose... if that... there's no way it is getting contaminated

I just discovered your channel, I have a question, is 89 octane gasoline a mixture of 87 and 93 made inside the gas station? Is this true or does it depend on the brand of fuel? Thanks.
@Life-On-18-Wheels
@Life-On-18-Wheels 8 ай бұрын
Yes sir the pumps actually mix it themselves nowadays... if you see a pump that has mid 89 oct then the pump is a little bit older then the newer ones.. doesn't depend on brand all it depends on is how new the pumps are... but yes it does mix it at the pump.. now with that being said there are still stores where we have to mix it in the trailer when we are loading it where we load so much 87 and then load 93 on it to mix at the rack...

Brother, I know you don't want here this but its a good idea to hook your hose up to your fittings first and then your truck valves, it could save yourself from uneccessary spill! Cones first, bucket second always! Some States don't require you have Vapor hose but the fact is Vapor is the most Dangerous aspect of the job! How were you dropping diesel at the same time as no lead? When dropping ulsd you need to vent the vapor recovery ports to vent the trailer if you are dropping gasoline at the same time you would be releasing vapors into the air which is dangerous, but mainly because states have laws that require you to have a vapor recovery present for gasoline products. Do you live in a state where that is allowed?

After you were the same gloves Ober and over they eventually start cracking and yes then you hands can start getting dirty and smelly but if you have extra gloves and keep them swapped out before they do start cracking then you want smell like it... 1st question-- we don't hook a ground cable to the truck while unloading but we do at the terminal we load the gas at.. 2nd question-- yes there are vapor recovery at the gas stations but in rural areas we do not have to hook it up... we only have to hook it up in the big metropolitan areas.. 3rd question--we stick the tanks to verify a more accurate reading then what the print out shows... the print outs do not always read the tank levels correctly... Hope that answers your questions
