Mrs. Coffee, as an artist I need to ring in here. While Tineye.com is great place to START it is by NO MEANS a place to rely upon when determining if artwork is under current copyright. The bottom line is this.. EVERY PIECE OF ART CREATED IS COPYRIGHTED until it comes into the Public Domain (between 75 and 95 years AFTER the DEATH of the ARTIST).. a better question is IS THIS IMAGE LEGALLY LICENSED for use in DIAMOND PAINTING; OR, DID THE ARTIST CREATE THE ART SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS DIAMOND PAINTING (OR PUZZLE, COLOR BOOK, GREETING CARD, FABRIC, ETC, COMPANY). The answer is most easily determined if the Diamond Painting company credits the actual artist (the way that DAC credits Hannah Lynn and Mandie Manzano) etc. That said, SOME ARTISTS (including photographers) DO PLACE THEIR ART with sites like Shutterstock which in turn LICENSES IT OUT TO USERS for specific commercial purposes.. like a Diamond Painting.. but the USER making the Diamond Painting Kit MUST PAY THE LICENSE FEE TO SHUTTERSTOCK which in turn pays it out to the Artist. Again, most often a SAFE purchase. AT NO TIME should ANY image be considered in the public domain unless definitive evidence can be found, and UNLESS THE MANUFACTURER IS GIVING CREDIT TO THE ARTIST the image IS MOST LIKELY STOLEN ART. MOST OF THE ART THAT IS STOLEN has been taken from either pictures on JIGSAW PUZZLE makers sites, or Diviant Art which is why so many of your results are coming up that way). This is the same art that has been such a problem in the coloring community... all those big beautiful color images available and then being desaturated.

C L Aldridge Art I am also an artist and have dealt with copyright issues for years. I totally agree with everything you said. Just for the exercise, I tried a reverse image search for a relatively famous friend’s art using Tineye and the results would indicate that her painting doesn’t “belong” to anyone! Some people might think that means that they can get her art as a diamond painting and that would be ok...but it sure isn’t ok! I know copyright is a pain...thank you, Mrs Coffee for at least trying. 😃

Thank you for doing this video. I’m new to the diamond art community, and feel very silly for not knowing this. None the less, I think many need to rethink where they are buying from. I will personally make sure I buy from reputable sources.

I hope Maggie is doing well now family comes first. For the new year I wanted to learn cross stitch thanks to you and Rachel and I’m doing good with it.

Like with normal painting only use a reference of your own or use a website like pixabay or paint my picture (or others) to find references you allowed to use.. and if you want to be safe don't send them your own pictures and use a cross stitch program to convert them into a diamond painting.. and just buy your canvas and diamonds..

Thank you for doing this video. I am starting to think that the majority of images in Diamond Painting are stolen. For this reason, I try to buy from US based companies. They have to follow our copyright laws or they are fined or they can go to jail.🐞💚🐞

CL Aldridge Art is totally correct. It is safe to assume that every piece of art created since 1924 is under copyright. Even stock photos have specific licenses. The name of the artist may or may not come up in Tineye, but copyright protections attach the moment a piece of art is created without any further action by the artist. I have an easy test after searching dozens of these images - if the art is more than 100 years old, you're probably safe. If it's less than 100 years old and it's on Ali Express, it is stolen.

Saving an image is easier to do by right clicking on an image and select "Save Image As" and give it a name you'll remember.

how do we tell if things on Amazon have ben liscened for DP. Just found a kit on amazon and noticed it was one on DAC has but a different size. Amazon has a report feature for things like this but don't want to false report them if they are doing it leagally.

99% of companies on amazing dont have legally licensed, it would be in there about section, but if DAC had it, then the image you found is probably stolen art. DAC is in Amazon though

Ask them, companies with Licenses will proudly state they are legally licensed, Those who don't will say they use images from stock photos or won't even respond.

OK I get that that Web page tells you where the Ary work comes from, or who it belongs to. But how do you tell if its license to a certain company, do you actually have to contact that artist?

I’m giving diamond painting another go and I want to be a responsible diamond painter and purchase ethically sourced diamond paintings. I watched your video and I’m a little confused. So, if I save the photo to my phone, go to tineye and if it says it belongs to someone, then it’s likely stolen. If we plus in a picture from Amazon and it just comes up and there’s no artist credited, but it’s in a boatload of places, it’s likely okay? I try to purchase from legit sites like DAC and a list that was shared with me from another KZfaqr. However, I see some decent landscape photo diamond art on Amazon that I’d like to do, but I don’t wanna support anyone who’s not legit. Thank you :)

Most companies will advertise if they have Licensed images. If their not public domain their stolen.

Thank you for making this video. It makes me wonder at what point is it safe to use ANY picture out there? Unless we all use companies that are all USA bound, meaning factories and everything; nothing is safe. Another thing is with Mandies work, since they are based off of Disney characters; is it safe for us to even do those? Could she get in trouble for using the base image and altering it for her artwork? Disney has a major lock on its characters. And what if we all have a stash of diamond painting kits that we legally paid for, not knowing any of these issues about copyrights. Would we get in trouble for showing them? The companies aka AliExpress, Wish etc are to blame for the pirating issues; not us.That is one reason I don't show a lot of my diamond paintings on FB. I don't want to get in trouble for something I paid good money out for, and find out I am in trouble for a pirated picture; even though I wasn't the one who did it. They need to go after the companies doing it, not the individual consumers. Pardon my french, but it is too da mn confusing!!

🤦🏾‍♀️ I love how when this issue comes up the first person people go to is Mandie Manzano's work.... Have you ever tried asking her how she can create the work she does? Its because she has some kind of deal or something with disney that allows her to make the art she does. Don't you think Disney would have come after her by now? Also her works are a "Replica" not exact representation of disney characters. I don't thin Diamond Art Club would risk their reputation with an artist who uses stolen images to make Diamond paintings, if you are usure how she is able to do what she does... Then take it straight to the source. Ask Mandie herself
