Well done. Lots of good information. The Liquitex varnish appears to be much thinner than what I'm accustomed to using. The light touch used in spreading the varnish is similar to the technique of tipping off. I'll know the Liquitex viscosity soon enough. I was surprised that mineral spirits could be used to remove Liquitex water based varnish, which I thought was designed to be permanent. I knew the exception was Liquitex Soluvar which is designed to be removable. Painting in the dining room! Last time I tried that, I blew paint everywhere with a with my 2.6 CFM air compressor! Fantastic varnishing tutorial. Isolation layer, brilliant. Never heard of it before. I never knew that varnish could be removed from a painting. So much great info, tips, and tricks. 👏👏👏

My barn studio get down to 33° today! Let’s just say, I didn’t do much painting! My fingers were numb after repairing my worksurface, so I think I’ll wait until Wednesday when it’s supposed to be up to 56°… LOL. We are literally moving our bedroom into what was my indoor shop/studio because the studio is not conducive to my creative process. So our new addition bedroom is now going to be my new indoor studio for the winter, and our bedroom is going to be this itty-bitty tiny room (more like a closet)! The things we do for our Art.

I spray varnish or use a triple glaze spray, I can’t sit & hold still long enough to brush varnish. But, I’ve used so many spray paints, top coats & finishes, it’s just easier for me. I’ve also used all kinds of strippers & wood prep (probably inhaled lead paint more than once restoring my old house) but love to hand apply things like lemon or Tung Oil, watching wood grain pop as you rub it in, just not varnish.

This video just saved me! I have been struggling with varnish. Being a newbie, I was getting so frustrated when it came to finishing my few 'successes' (I use the word lightly 🙄) because the brush strokes were getting the best of me! Then along came you! I tried your method and I actually went over a few that I had previously varnished and I even managed to salvage them following your tutorial! Next I'm going to try the satin over the gloss and see how that turns out. Thanks again!!!!

Thanks a lot for the detailed description on brushes. I guess I picked the wrong brush though it was cheap but left the brush marks. So I started to use the spray instead of liquid. But liquid is cheaper than spray.
