I agree I looked up because I absolutely failed freshman year and my grade point average was horrible but it helps knowing if you still have bad grades you can still make a good future for yourself

I know the feeling because I've been there. More than 40 years ago, I went to a specialized high school, allegedly one of the top schools in New York, but it was an overrated toilet. Most of the teachers there were just angry, toxic people who motivated by fear. Needless to say, I failed a bunch of piss-poor classes that never did anything for me in real life. Eventually, I dropped out because I just didn’t give a rat’s ass anymore. Years later I graduated from college and law school. Now, I’ve been a college law professor for the past 23 years and I’m having the time of my life doing something I love that actually helps students. The moral of the story is that anyone can overcome one or more bad grades to find success and fulfillment, both academically and professionally. Never let bad grades in meaningless classes keep you from your true calling.

@@MelissaShepardMD Thanks, Doc. I'd also suggest this: the way to succeed in any academic pursuit is to do it for yourself...and NEVER on anyone else's terms. If you're going to school and/or pursuing a major because someone else wants you to do it...and you don't want to, then that's a train wreck just looking for a spot to land. That's what happened to me in high school. I failed geometry, trigonometry, physics, civics, structural design, and even gym because I mentally collapsed under the weight of everyone else's expectations. Once I realized that I was trying to be all things to all people, I also knew I needed to make a clean break and start over...for myself, and no one else!!! For example, if you want to be a music major but your lawyer parents want you to major in pre-law, then it is absolutely worthless to sit in class after class in a major someone else wants for you...BUT YOU DON'T. Follow your own path. It's YOUR life and YOUR education. Never let anyone tell you different. You CAN pull it off. I'm living proof.

Thanks for this it really helped. Idk why but I thought I was the only one that went through this. Everywhere I looked online nobody had a similar experience. I was always skipping class and barely managed to graduate (1.9 gpa). I'm now 22 and realized my mistakes and I'm planning on going to med school after I meet the requirements.

I'm failing high school because of two reasons: 1.I have hard time focusing on the teacher like focusing on the stuff she is teaching. 2.I am very bad at memorization like really bad and high school in my case is full of memorization. I might have adhd cuz i stutter and cuz of the memorization and focusing issues but whats really important to me is that how to overcome these issues that i had since childhood.

What advice would you give someone who was horrible in high school? Went to college a couple times. Probably about 8 years ago and just didn't really focus. I have ADHD and coincidentally my wife is actually a MD. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life. I've always been in business and I love helping other people but after me and her met I found a love for her job. Her basically coming home everyday. Tell me how things were and that kind of stuff. So I'm about to start college here soon and go the DO path. But I'm extremely nervous for anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, and all those classes. Because I've never really been a school smart person. I've been more a common sense in street smart person.
