This is how I do this. It's not hard to set this up after you know a few things. This works well where you need more power off-grid than one inverter can push.

Good explanation. Bus Bars are the way to go when making multiple connections, much cleaner. You most likely mentioned this previously, a good source for bus bars is Midnight Solar. They seem to have a good selection for different types of situations.

I watched your video with your big solar array, and why they should be sized together for the different output's and shading zones. Very informative. I will be building im thinking 2 battery banks for a offgrid boondocking cargo trailer. Ill have enough room to put 4 panels on the roof, with a diy tilting frame. I don't think ill need to put them on seperate controls for shading, but want to make two banks for the weight issue. Ive watched a few videos on building banks, im thinking the bms and smart shunt will be the way i go for battery safety. I have 8 lifepo4 280ah 3.2 batteries coming, do you have any advice on if they should be/and how to wire the banks 12v banks and wire together for 24v? I am a newbie on solar and this will be my first build. So i don't want to waste money on going 2 12volt systems and controls if i should be building two boxes and wiring them as one with one set of charge controls for a 24v system. If that makes sense lol. I spent to much time watching videos, i had to take a break. But if i remember correctly all the systems were 12v i watched, and remember something about 24v being more efficient. Thanks if you have any suggestions, God bless brother!
@checkingoutgypsymike20753 жыл бұрын
For clarification. I will be putting a pvc pipe system on roof around the solar array frame for shower water, washing clothes, dishes ect. If im not parked near a flowing water source, ill be taking water jugs and a battery bank with a pump and filter for water collection instead of hooking up trailer and moving to it to fill the 40 gallon pipe storage system. It may turn out it'll be easier to just have a agm battery for that, instead of un hooking a bank, but will still be making two banks for the weight issues. If i have a failure in one bank of any kind it'd be nice to still have one working if say a controller or shunt went down.

Thanks Bobby. Wouldn’t it still be the same amount of power going into the battery regardless of how the PV is wired. If it is all going to one charge controller or two or three charge controllers for that matter, isn’t all of the power flowing to the same common battery? The exception would be as you noted , if different sized PV existed and wired to different charge controllers.
@yankey43 жыл бұрын
Yes your right. But as you know. This is just needed when you have different sized PV going to one bank. It's not ever the best thing to mix PV. On the same CC. Unless the electric values are all the exact same of the PV. If not the lower value panel will pull the rest of them down to it. Seen this happen where guys had 255 watt PV mods and a 245 watt mod on the same CC. He just had 2 of the 245 and 6 of the 255. The max he could get ever was 245. That's with ice and temps of 15F.. At that temps there should have been his max PV going in. But max we could see was the 245. In the case he had 2020 watts of PV. on a average sunny day he would see max 1400 ish watts or so. When we removed the 245 out of the setup. He was getting 1350 + watts on a average sunny day. That's just one that I can recall this min. But seens all kinds of things like this. That one too where so close in watts and Volts. You would think it woulf not been that big of a deal but it was. When we got him a new CC and added those 245 guys on that one he was seeing 400 ish watts from them a day. So just by this few sets his power had gone up about 500 watts + and hr.. That's a crap load of power when your trying to live 100% off-grid. Sorry for all this LOL.. Hope that helps..

Can you describe ripple effect and what the concern is?
@yankey43 жыл бұрын
@@AGhostInTheMachine From what I know it's this in short and from what I know. May not be right on this. It's when one inverter is pulling a lot of amps and the next one is left with out the amps its needing to do it's job. That's from what I recall.
@yankey43 жыл бұрын
This is way you keep the inverters the same size. Also size your battery bank to handle the max loads you can place. I do 120%. So If I know I need to do 4500 watts. Than I size the bank to do like 14KW or more. Even knowing that can't ever happy. Like to have LOADS of head room ..
@offgridwanabe3 жыл бұрын
@@AGhostInTheMachine As the story goes having 2 inverters on the same battery causes the ripple effect. Ripple is wasted power, and has many undesirable effects in a DC circuit: it heats components, causes noise and distortion, and may cause digital circuits to operate improperly. ... Ripple may be reduced by an electronic filter, and eliminated by a voltage regulator. Or capacitors
