Last year, on my way back from Hawaii, inside the airport there were stations where staff would check for bugs, fruit etc.. and we walked up to the station, showed our passes and we’re promptly told “Wait, you’re going to Canada, never mind you’re not required for inspection” we then realized there’s no threat of invasive species of bugs here, it’s so cold everything just dies anyway lol

Canada has the same rules, it was probably just that they don't care since you're LEAVING the US (well, Hawaii). Canada would check upon arrival for any food, but they don't have nearly as detailed of a setup, no dogs, etc

Also you can absolutely get paid for the stuff you are "naturally" good at as a human, you can be a marathon runner or whatever. You can also eat for a job. Or sleep. Of course there's always a catch and it is actually hard work. It's not that easy, not for you, not for these dogs

Let’s not forget the most dangerous food. A kinder egg surprise. Edit: To the people saying that it is there and they see it in the store everyday, it’s most likely kinder joy and not the surprise. A fruit fly from Australia got into New Zealand and suburbs literally have zones where you can't take fruit out of. This is because if fruit travels out there may be fruit fly larvae on them which can cause the bug to further spread and destroy industries. I believe there was a serious incident nationwide related to kiwkfruit in a similar incident
@AlexLuik

@Ben Jackbag Mank It's called food safety risk management. Yes, it could spread one way or another, but you CAN substantially lower the risk of it spreading, thus lowering the risk of losing millions, if not billions of dollars not just in agriculture, but also in healthcare, as contaminated foods and/or foreign insects/fungi could cause so much damage you couldn't even imagine. Not dealing with it is just anarchy, do you want chaos? Think about it next time you go to a grocery store and be thankful that these risk management systems are there for you and your prosperity and safety.

Imagine being a bug tho. You have been stolen with your nice juicy mango house, taken through super cold high altitudes, landed at some foreign place, and then you get incinerated for *existing*.

What people gotta understand is that this is not a waste of resources this actually protects our country from invasive species and what not. Just look at it from the flipside, would you as a Us citizen go to another country with some hamburgers, sausage and bread? I Just think thats very dumb in general. They do realize especially in New York City we have every single food item known to man available somewhere

So if I understand correctly you first bought the oranges in Cali, then flew to Canada, importing them there no problem, next you flew back to LAX and Boom ! They confiscated their own oranges, right ?
