I know for a fact that she married her cousin to begin with, so inbreeding is not questionable already. Straight up because Diana was "illegitimate" on one side of her tree and she wasn't so obedient, therefore not as loyal which is bad if you aren't related entirely. Then she was killed. Goes to show how badly they want to keep that inbred lineage. I wouldn't be surprised if something happened to Kate if she has any illegitimacy in her lines.

It's the main thing I envy the Royals for, the fact that they can trace their ancestry back so far. It's actually fascinating to see how our future King and Queen William and Kate are in fact related to one another. One could almost believe that such arrangements have a degree of planning to keep things in the family as it were.

Pretty much all Anglo-Saxons have some kind of noble or royal ancestor if you go far back enough. She is a commoner in the fact no-one in her close family holds any peerage titles. You have to go back quite a bit to find a noble ancestor.

Impressive research. Just a suggestion: there's a thing called quociente of inbreeding. It's a number that quantifies how inbred a person is. I think if you could incorporate that for some key characters in this family trees, it would make it more interesting

Nor will you ever find me on the Manly Ferry. Nor any Convicts .But my Father went to sea selfishly dying when was 13 leaving me here on the wrong side of the sheets. But informing me he'd won WW2 all by himself. As for my contributions to inbreeding. As I was there I know 1. The mould was broken after me. My father had no Jewish relatives nor relations. Gengish did have a lot of children, but if he had that many no one knows. They’ve never been able to confirm that he’s really the progenitor of all this dna, and some dna tests of his supposed relatives living today suggests he might not be. But the sad thing is that we don’t have access to his remains for conclusive dna testing. He’s mostly the prime suspect because historians and scientists don’t know who else would have the opportunity to go at it like he did. That was my first thought when my mom's DNA revealed a tiny percentage of "manchurian/mongolian", even tho she is 98 percent Irish. And a tiny percentage of Italian... since the Roman Empire stretched all the way to Hadrian's Wall, my assumption was... somewhere a Roman soldier, in addition to a soldier of Genghis Khan... most likely rape. Just how things were back then...

My mom managed to trace her mom's line up to King Edward III as well! And to James I, II, III and IV of Scotland. We branch off when King James IV had a baby with a mistress named Isabel Stewart. My mom's parents are related about 14 generations back, and her mom's mom's parents are also related about 14 generations back. It's wild, so tangled and hurts my brain. I'm the 17th generation away from King James IV so I guess I'm a micro-percent related to the queen! I'm as far away from King James IV as Prince William's kids!

I’m related to the Queen because: I’m related to the Qutb Shahs who are related to the Mughal’s(the Mughal’s are also related to Gengish Khan and the Afghan Monarchs. Keep in mind that Gengish Khan is also related to the Qing Monarchs and Korean Monarchs). The Mughal’s are related to Safavid’s because Aurangzeb married Dilras Banu Begun who comes from the Safavid dynasty. Abbas the Great married two people who were related to the Georgian Monarchs(Bagrationi dynasty). The Bagrationi’s stem from Charlemagne and he is related to every Monarch in Europe and some US Presidents.

If we could all trace our family histories as detailed as the British royalty and aristocracy can, we'd probably all see that we are related too. Up until the Industrial Revolution people stayed pretty close to home in towns and villages their entire lives.

This is actually what I spotted in Denmark. There are areas here where you can see people are quite look alike or having weird looks like short hand, extreme oval face, terrible oversized dental deformations etc.

Exactly. There are over 100 million people of British ancestry around the world. 200 years ago there were less than 10 million. If you go back another 500 years maybe 2 or 3 million. All Britons alive now descend from them. Our national family tree would be as tangled as this.

Those non-royal marriages will be able to draw from a larger pool of eligible people. That said, the pool of people at a similar rank, who would agree to the marriage, who have unwed sons and daughters, whose sons and particularly daughters are considered an appropriate age, will still be very small.

Family trees tend to be more complicated when it isn't just one family inbreeding for centuries

The emphasis is always on inbreeding in royal (or aristocratic) families. But what about us commoners? If our ancestors lived in a small village in a not densely populated area, the pool of potential mates would be relatively small, even if there were other small villages within walking or riding distance. It's possible that most young people would marry in their own village or nearby ones that had much the same gene pool. So if they were able to trace their ancestors back more than a few generations, they'd be related, and probably via more than one marriage. Populations (particularly in rural areas) didn't become particularly mobile until well into the 18th century or even the 19th. And don't forget that in many countries there was still a feudal system (e.g., France) or serfdom (e.g., Russia) that tied rural populations to the land, so chances of finding a mate with no common ancestry were slim.

Seems a particularly common situation in the US where you get entire towns that were founded by literally a handful of people, and has since lead to widespread medical problems in many places. It's rough. I remember reading Iceland had a dating app which deliberately tried to avoid matching people too closely related because the population there is so low and interconnected.

This video does a good job at illustrating just how related Queen Elizabeth II's ancestors were, but honestly, this applies to everyone who can trace their ancestry back to these guys. Me included. I've traced my ancestry back to people like King Charlemagne, King John, and King Edward III through many different lines, way more times than I'd like to admit.

It’s pretty cool untangling family trees. I’ve been doing mine for several months now, and it’s even more weird to realize that I, some random gen x born and raised in Seattle, am related to these people. My great grandparents include the Cromwell, Seymour, Stanhope, Paulet, Beaufort, and other lines from the continent including Richard the Fearless.

One detail you missed was that Mary Queen of Scots married her first cousin Henry Stuart Lord Darnley and had James of dual numbers by him. Mary's father was James V of Scotland, who was the son of Margaret Tudor and her first husband James IV of Scotland. Dear Mortal Faces, My jaw literally dropped when I saw how the Queen Mother was related to the English royal family through the Duchess of Devonshire. I had no idea. Here, I thought that George VI made a good non related match. Was I wrong! My jaw dropped finding out that William and Katherine are related too. I thought that she was just a nice commoner girl. Thank you for all of the time consuming detailed work that you do so that the rest of us don't have to. You are an amazing dude!

Charles, the Prince of Wales, is 74 years old. He may very well die of old age before he ever has the opportunity to be the King. At her coronation in 1953 the crowds all shouted at Queen Elizabeth II "Long live the Queen!" over and over again. Apparently she took it to heart!

I am one of many thousands of people related to the Royal Family through my maternal line. My mother's mother was a Bowes-Taylor and (although many family members in South Africa later dropped the Bowes), we and the Queen Mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, share common ancestors as I have seen on our family tree, which makes me and my children distant cousins of the royals. Glamis Castle in Scotland was a "family seat" and I was told by my mum when I was just a small child that there were so-called "monsters" locked up there (or hidden away in homes for the retarded/insane), all being the result of incest. In fact, my mother also told me it was rumoured that the Queen Mother herself was actually an illegitimate child, conceived from a staff member. Interesting stuff. I'd enjoy your input. (My family tree can easily be traced.)

So all kings from George I to Edward VII were German and all married women they were related to. The only break came with George VI who married a Scot which makes Elisabeth half Scottish, three-eights German and one-eighth Danish. Elisabeth herself reinforced the German Danish lineage by marring Philip who was not Greek by blood. William with an English mother will be the first king with mostly English blood since Henry VIII and as his wife is English George will be three-quarters English

well, even if only one of a child's parents are of royal blood, that is still significant. and if the other parent is of noble descent, then we can't _really_ talk about 'dilution' of royal blood or of the person importance/standing in society. on the other hand, yes all of the kings and queens had affairs left right and centre. no secret in that. HOWEVER the legitimacy of royal heirs was taken very seriously (still is) and even if the monarchs despised one another and had dozens of illegitimate (and often probably more adequate) children, it was their offspring that would be inheriting the throne. which is why so many brothers/cousins/aunties/uncles ended up taking the throne - the royal couple did not, for whatever reason, have a legitimate child to put on the throne, while the number or quality of the other children did not matter, as in the eyes of the law, they didn't exist. so the chances of ruling monarchs being in any way illegitimate are very low and they would count as the exceptions, not the rules.

I think Hardee's is Carl's Jr. here in California, I haven't been to one in about 40 years though, I know my husband would love that burger, he occasionally does a drive through when he's out and about for work, I think he would really enjoy that breakfast burrito too.
