As a person who attempted to join Indian army after engineering degree and reached shortlist but was not in cut off, I have special place in my heart for Indian army. I always wanted to be in Infantry division, but lost by few points in OTA. I am immensely proud of Indian Army and current government who are giving importance to native companies. My next endeavour would be to work for company' that works for Indian Army and contribute in small part.

I wish India success in its defense industry for 4 reasons; 1. Russia will not be a reliable partner in the present or future as its armed forces are being shattered in Ukraine and will not be capable of rebuilding due to sanctions that will not be lifted until regime changes in Moscow, 2. The war has exposed the severe deficiencies in Russian arms manufacturing both in the quality control of weapons production, which is extremely poor, and capacity. All their production will be focused on recovery from the Ukraine war which is still bleeding them hard and reliability of arms contracts are suspect (see the Vikramaditya fiasko, and fantasy super-jets like the SU-75 that never materialize). 3. Russia post-war will be heavily dependent on Chinese backing and will lean closely to them as a junior partner or satellite state. Indians hoping to leverage a friendship with Moscow to intercede against Beijing should look at the damaged reputation and clout the Russians are already showing - the central asian countries are already ignoring Moscow in favor of Ankara, Beijing, or Washington and the non-Russian ethnic republics inside the Federation will act more autonomously or even dare independence if Putin continues Russia’s disastrous trend downward. 4. India is its own player on the world but it is still a democratic government. As much as it prides its independence and is willing to act separate from the western world (US, Britain, Europe, Australia, Japan, S Korea,…) I do not think Delhi looks at the world’s authoritarian regimes and would see its long term national security assured in the success of war hungry regimes like Putin and Xi Jinping. IOW a world where Russia and China’s ambitions are checked if not outright defeated is safer for India.
