Nobody's pointing out that the first guy to suggest "Bee" here is the same guy who joined the sports naming team because the insect department bugged him NO PUN INTENDED. He was also the one to point out that it was a Bee that flew into the room in the video, not a wasp, which actually makes a lot sense since he's the one who *named the thing.* It's all connected, Ryan George is a genius

In norwegian dragonflies are called "øyenstikker" which literally translate to "eye-stinger". As a kid I thought dragon flies could gouge your eyes out because of their name. Imagine if that was true

In finnish a dragonfly is "sudenkorento" which is "the rod of a wolf" or "wolfs rod", so yeah I'm gonna say y'all were a bit more creative and cool with this one

dragonflies are also sometimes called "darning needles" because adult would tell kids that the dragonflies would come in their rooms and sew their eyes and mouths shut while sleeping. which would have fueled that "earwig" guy's nightmares. . . . . "you can't prove that they don't!"

I think the weirdly sensual bug namer gets a lot of attention, but all of his characters are so good. The guy saying bugs crawl into orifices saying "not on purpose" to eating butterflies, like this is his excuse for having bugs in his mouth was hilarious. 😂

In the UK, a Daddy Long Legs refers to a different type of insect. I don't know what to call it since I only know it by the name "daddy long legs", but it has wings and constantly flails around in your house in the autumn

Ladybugs were originally called Our Lady’s Beetle. Our Lady is a common term Catholics use to refer to the Virgin Mary, such as in Our Lady of Guadalupe or Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fátima. As the legend goes, during the Middle Ages, farmers were terrorized by aphids eating their crops. The farmers prayed to Mary who sent the ladybugs to get rid of the aphids. The red of the ladybug represents Mary’s red cloak she is often depicted wearing. And the seven black spots represent the seven sorrows she suffered

@@FlyingFox86 yeah I just did some research and you are correct, that is just a common misconception, there are a few speculations on where the word came from like the yellow wings of some species of butterflies and some folklore about witches turning into butterflies and stealing dairy products but no evidence of it ever being called flutterby except by children
