MLB Pipeline’s top prospect Jackson Holliday is NOW injured, and is expected to miss a couple weeks, before returning to action in AAA. If you’ve been following my channel, you know that I’ve been puting out countless videos on how Jackson Holliday has been doing in the minors since his demotion back in April. Today, we’ll look at how Jackson Holliday has performed in the minors up until his recent INJURY.. Getting right into it, As of the making of THIS video, Jackson Holliday is 36 for 147 with 5 home runs, 12 doubles,19 singles, 43 WALKS, and 47 strikeouts in his at bats back in AAA. Let’s dive into the numbers. In order of his 40 games back in AAA, here are his stats, I had been doing these game by game, but since he’s played in so many games now, I’m taking them in chunks of 5:
Games 1 through 5: 4 for 20 (.200) with 2 doubles, 2 singles, 6 walks, and 1 strikeout
So a little light on the hits, but his on base percentage was up due to all those walks. Then, he caught fire:
Games 6 through 10: 6 for 17 (.353) with a HOME RUN, 2 doubles, 3 singles, 6 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
The HR was his First since before his call-up April 10th, so it had been a month since his last homer
Games 11-15 were a little bit slower again when it comes to the hits:
3 for 19 (.158) with 3 singles, 4 walks, and 6 strikeouts
Games 16-20: 5 for 22 (.227) with a HOME RUN, double, 3 singles, 4 walks, and 7 strikeouts.
Games 21 through 25: 4 for 20 (.200) with a home run, a double, 2 singles, 6 walks, and 8 strikeouts.
Games 26 through 30- 7 for 16 (.438) with a home run, two doubles, 4 singles, 4 walks, and 6 strikeouts
Games 31-35- 4 for 15 (.267) with two doubles, 2 singles, 5 walks, and 4 strikeouts
& Finally, games 36 through 40- 3 for 18 with a HOME RUN, double, single, 7 walks, and 7 strikeouts
So again, overall 36 for 147 which is good for a .245 batting average. As the sample size begins to increase, we’re seeing Jackson finally start to get back into his groove, with some improved stats here as of late.
Taking a look at his strikeout numbers, which has been something I’ve kept an eye on with how often he was going down on strikes in the majors; his 47 strikeouts since his demotion equate to a 32% strikeout rate. While this IS a nice improvement on the 53% figure he had in the major leagues, that number is still a little elevated for me. If he can get that down under 20%, thats more where we want to see it.
Now, are all of these stats gonna get Jackson Holliday back in the big leagues anytime soon? Probably not. I feel that he’s gonna need to put up some better stats consistently over the course of the coming weeks to get the promotion. Theres certainly been flashes of promise, as he’s shown the ability to lay off some close pitches and draw all those walks, and of course with the five home runs he’s hit as well. If he can get the consistency going,it’ll just be a matter of time before the Orioles top prospect is back in the major leagues.
& As I’ve mentioned before, the thing about it is while Jackson gets back into his groove, the Orioles continue to win at the major league level, really eliminating the need to try and rush Jackson back up. That’s why I feel that this will be a little more of an extended stay down in AAA. The Orioles REALLY want to get Holliday consistent, everyday at bats, and re-assess in a few weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if its another couple months before we see Jackson Holliday in the big leagues again. And personally, I feel that thats the best thing for his career right now. He needs to take the pressure off of himself, get back to the basics, and the success will come. As I like to say, It’s not a matter of IF we will see Jackson Holliday back in the big leagues, just when.
