I seldome leave comments. But this is so spot on. I just had a big fight with our company choir conductor who chose two other colleagues as soloists over me when I was clearly the best and the most experienced singer in the entire choir. He offered weak explanations. So I challenged him publicly in the group chat of 100 people. It is been a while he always favored those in Alto section because it was them who founded the choir. After I challenged him, I quit. I don't think negatively of him. I just don't think of him at all. I learned a lot from this as I could see how suppressing motivated people without proper explanations is so damaging to the team. Most importantly, I am confident with my voice, and I don't need anyone to validate that belief (or fact...). I know some may think why I got upset over such trivial things. But I know sometimes I need to defend my convictions, otherwise I will be unhappy. So let them play their little game, and sure now I have a reputation in my company...but it is ok, no more people try to suppress me with their fake smiles.
