How did the Byzantine Empire lose three key provinces - Syria, Egypt, and Palestine - in a decade, to be followed by North Africa soon afterward? Part of the answer is that the Byzantines were caught flat-footed by the speed of events and by the fact that after Islam became supreme in Arabia, it was driven by an ideology of Jihad, a determination to universalize itself and establish a Muslim world state. Islam assumes that everyone is “by nature” Muslim and that it is the duty of Muslims and Muslim states to spread Islam. Essentially, Jihad is a kind of unrelenting and fervent missionary thrust that can be carried out either by persuasion or by the sword. There is a saying (hadith) ascribed to Muhammad comparing Jihad to Christian monasticism: “The monasticism of the Muslim nation is the Jihad.” The Christian monasticism that Muhammad had seen was the intense commitment of desert hermits and the very strict religious communities. Jihad highlights the essential difference between Byzantine and Muslim military attitudes at the time. For centuries, inspired by Christianity, the Byzantines had minimized aggressive war and had been primarily concerned with the defense of the empire’s borders rather than conquest. So rather than taking the initiative and attacking the Muslims, the Byzantine emperors maintained a relatively defensive posture. They had inherited the Eastern Roman Empire and simply assumed that God had entrusted these Christian people to them to rule in peace. “The spirit of the [Byzantine] empire … had been by definition pacific. The proper Byzantine hated war; and one of the most urgent duties of their emperors was the preservation of peace, after the pattern of the Prince of Peace whom they claimed to represent.” In fact, as philosopher Jacques Ellul points out, the notion of war as a means of spreading the faith actually finds it origin in Islam. “War is inherent in Islam. It is inscribed in its teaching… It is coherent with its conception… that the whole world is destined to become “Muslim” because, at heart, “Islam is the only religion that conforms perfectly to nature”. Ellul argues that early Christianity was always suspicious of war given the teaching of Jesus that enemies must be forgiven and loved. But the Christians learned from the Muslims, and by the eleventh century Christianity was infected with notions of crusades and holy wars. Ellul also argues that Islam created a paramountcy of law over love in which law became the preeminent value."

Every differences and violence between different Tribes and Nations will be solved on his 2nd coming. Jesus Christ taught to love others. Jesus Christ loved all human being.
