How Israel became the most advanced country in agriculture

Күн бұрын

At the beginning of the nineteenth century, early settlers who decided to settle in the lands of Israel faced a huge challenge: how to farm in conditions of sweltering heat and minimal rainfall. The land was catastrophically barren, but the desire to make this area livable was much stronger. Thus, ways to develop agriculture without water and fertile soil have been found!
How exactly did Israel manage to become the capital of advanced technologies in this area? We will find out in this video on the Innovative Techs channel. Water scarcity has been and remains a problem that humanity has faced throughout history. But if earlier, a relatively small part of the world's population suffered from a lack of water, then in the last century this problem has reached a global scale.

First let me say I'm not a fan of desalination. But if it is a last resort to save lives, then do what you must. As far as drip irrigation, I've been using it for around 30 years on my gardens and have designed many landscapes using a drip system. My most challenging build was a home of a friend in AZ that I did. First I had to convince him that in AZ, having a totally green yard was a mistake. But beyond that, what we did was create a total hydro recovery system on the entire property where we dug our 3 feet of top surface. Laid a rubber membrane system throughout the entire property. Then laid a pipe recovery system leading to a 500 gal underground storage system with a natural filtration system on top (standard large stone, small stone, sand, charcoal system), and then replaced the top soil with a drip system to the plants. This allowed ALL water not captured by the plants to be recovered back to the storage system and used again. I personally think all major farms should be required to have some type of recovery system. It makes ecological and financial sense.

It isn't even close to making financial sense outside of the deserts of the world. Doing something like that for a yard that is maybe 1/8th an acre? is expensive, doing that for 500 or 1000 acres is ridiculous. Such an idiotic requirement would make food something only millionaires could afford.
@revparisking
@revparisking 2 жыл бұрын
@@chinmaysarode660 Jaime Estrada is pretty much right. By laying a rubber membrane with a leach recovery system right on top, we were able to direct all water not absorbed by the root systems of the grass and plants back onto a storage tank that allowed for reuse of any water not captured by the root system. Also, let me state watering should be done in early morning hours. Between midnight and before sunrise.

To Be fairly look at reality !!!! In 1967, Israel seized control of all water resources in the newly occupied territories. To this day, it retains exclusive control over all the water resources that lie between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, with the exception of a short section of the coastal aquifer that runs under the Gaza Strip. Israel uses the water as it sees fit, ignoring the needs of Palestinians in the West Bank and in the Gaza Strip to such an extent that both areas suffer from a severe water shortage. In each of them, residents are not supplied enough water; in Gaza, even the water that is supplied is substandard and unfit for drinking. The right to water and sanitation is a fundamental human right enshrined in international conventions. As Israel is a signatory to these conventions, it is obliged to uphold this right in all the territories it controls.

Pre-treated in a 1,000 gallon aerobic tank, then to a 1,000 gallon pump chamber, the effluent is so clean it is ready for ground water after just 12" of soil under the drip tubes, and I'm near Seattle where too much water in the soil is the main problem for sewage treatment.

The food security is probably worth as much as their defense security to them.

irrigation+rainfall = evaporation + transpiration + runoff + leaching Which one of these processes do Farmers really have control over during the growing season? If you have the ability to irrigate your sandy soils and water is cheap and plentiful, then you are fortunate and have some control on the left side of the equation. If you do not have irrigation, you must look at the factors on the right side of the equation to see what can be controlled or minimized to benefit your crop. Evaporation from the soil surface can be reduced with mulch or leaving crop residue on the soil surface. Transpiration is a function of the plant leaf surface area and the weather. Runoff is or should be minimal in sandy textured soils with high percolation rates. This leaves the leaching of water out of the root zone as the #1 controllable loss of moisture to your crop. Interrupting the downward movement of moisture in your soil by installing a "smart" barrier can greatly reduce the leaching of water and nutrients. SWRT subsurface membranes detain/retain up to 90% of irrigation or rainfall in the root zone for crop use by disrupting the gravitational movement of water in the soil while still allowing excess water to percolate and do not create anaerobic soil conditions.

To Be fairly look at reality In 1967, Israel seized control of all water resources in the newly occupied territories.

Jewish people are smart, innovative and work hard.When Jewish lived during the past inThessaloniki, Sepharads was an organic part of the city for centuries and gave the best.If someone visits Thessaloniki will still find traces of Shepharad's creative presence.Israel today is a modern state with western institutions and whatever this state does, it does it with seriousness.

If the countries surrounding Israel concentrated on cooperating with Israel to learn and help develop techniques like Israel has Pioneered the whole Middle east could become a Thriving Area with no time or desire for Political Bull Shit. The countries surrounding Israel and indeed across the world, should learn from Israel, Israel should be seen as a World resource of Technology and Ideas t help all!

Thank you for the video and it shows that Israel has a great solution for the word. i like the part where they spoke about the using sea water from the Mediterranean for irrigation. it got me thinking that this is what we need in Africa, the sea system or process can be used strictly for irrigation. I asked myself now we are land locked and is the water going to get to those that need it for agriculture. This is what i think needs to be looked into. Thank you
