The biggest mistake people make with Land Rovers is thinking they are cars, they aren’t, they are farm machinery.

These Landrovers can out last most cars made today, simplified mechanicals and no array of sensors with enough wiring to stretch to the moon, keeping it simple with only the necessary equipment.

David, you did it again.... you made my day! It's pure fun to watch your Landy videos. Well, I don't drive my 109 SIII truck cab on a daily basis, but when I drive it, it's a celebration. When I open the gate and I see the beauty after a couple of days, my heart goes boooooom! Checking oil and water is followed by 30 sec of meditation philosophic thoughts until the little orange light glows strong and firm. The sound, the smell, the vibrations.... and the look out of the windscreen with the spare wheel on top of the bonnet. It's just glorious! The big advantage of the truck cab version is that even my toes can watch the starry sky whilst I get eaten by mosquitos. You don't drive a Land Rover, you sail it...keep on sailing! 👍

I used to daily drive my 1961 series 2a V8 from Windsor into outer London regularly, no problems keeping up with traffic on the M4, now have a 110 Station Wagon V8 that does school run, shopping and long trips to off road sites and see friends. 2hr journeys each way no worries.😀😀😀

Between 1978 to 1982, I used my S3 as a daily vehicle and did 120,000 miles in it. Quite a bit of that was off road, building the M25 motorway around London. That Landy went on to be a daily drive vehicle for a game keeper and is still going today! I still have a 1977 S3 Landy now!

Well, I got a 1983 Series 3 and - thanks to the suggestion of an old 88 driver - I replaced the factory steering box (stone hard in the city), with the steering box part number NRC5963. It is a genuine Land Rover factory option of its age, warmly indicated for heavy duty cars such as the Stage One V8 and the "1 Ton model". My 88 now drives like it has a factory servo steering and, both in the city and on the highway is a real treat to drive!!! And I quickly found the part in the Netherlands, online ☺✌🏁

My 1974 S3 is my daily driver. It’s a 2.25 petrol cracking 15 mpg. It’s noisy slow uncomfortable, the heater is a lukewarm gentle draft, the headlights are as bright as whale oil candles and I get a free foot bath when the water drips on my feet but driving it makes me smile. I can’t rush because Lenny the Land Rover won’t rush and the whole experience is just stress free.

At least it is a Series 3 . The Series 1 Shorty had an 80 inch wheelbase , not 88 . Those 8 inches make a REAL difference . (She Said) . LOL . The 109s are easier to live with . But harder to park . And you can definitely sleep INSIDE a 109 . The Petrol engine was the better one . Not performance , but the Diesel was the SAME bottom end . Not beefed up for the Compression .
@David-zv2ob
@David-zv2ob 2 жыл бұрын
Does that make the diesel engines slightly less reliable than the petrol versions? Didn't know that the Series 1 had a 80 inch version, when I get the chance I'll make sure to drive one!
@johncunningham4820
@johncunningham4820 2 жыл бұрын
@@David-zv2ob . Yes . Sorry to say David . The Original Diesel is not as well considered as the Petrol Engine . Like I said . SAME Block , Crank and Conrods in Both engines . Obviously different heads and PROBABLY pistons . Yes . The very FIRST Series 1 shorty was TINY , Cute and Funny . They quite quickly made it 88 inch due to " Ride Quality " issues . As you can well imagine . lol .
@skipmole612

The Petrol engine used a cast crankshaft whereas the Diesel engine used a forged crank. They will interchange but putting the petrol crank in a diesel engine is not a good idea. To be fair, the 2 1/4 Diesel has stood the test of time, its just slow and noisy.

Leuke video. Wat is het verbruik wat jij met haar haalt in de stad? Wij denken er over na om een 88 2a of series 3 te kopen. Twijfelen betreft diesel of benzine. Zal beetje woon werk verkeer zijn waar ze voor gebruikt zal worden en om mee over het strand te rijden.
@David-zv2ob
@David-zv2ob 2 жыл бұрын
Dat is een goede vraag, ik kom vrijwel nooit in de stad met de Land Rover. Meestal rijden we over 50 en 80 wegen waar je weinig hoeft te stoppen. Gemiddeld rijden we daarmee 1L/10Km.

I did funny videos when i was 18, and 1 is with the camera sideways, Pretending the LandRover was a thunderbird rocket on a launchpad. We faked the gravity angle, and it was a bit funny. Eventually I will put it on youtube. The cornering is fairly good in these older LandRovers, and very predictable.

Hey man, is that a 2.25 diesel? if so how do you find it goes on short trips as i've heard that diesels don't last on short trips as it clogs the injectors
@David-zv2ob
@David-zv2ob 2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is. Depends on what you call short. We have a rule of thumb that we only take the Landy for trips longer than 30 minutes, exactly for that and a few other reasons. Sometimes we take it for a really short drive, but I couldn't tell you if that impacted the car negatively.
