Electrostatic speakers are one of those incredible things that are so beautifully basic in design but perform like a dream. You can make one at home with far less effort and money than you think.

I’m amazed at some of the comments people have made here. It leads me to believe they have never experienced these speakers in an environment where they have been setup correctly and with the proper electronics. I’m sure people are making remarks based on assumptions and have never heard them at all. Sad.

... Did anyone else notice the lady's finger at 3:31? That looks like scarring from electrocution. While I'm more than convinced at the audio quality output, the sheer amount of electricity involved is more than enough to drive me (pun!) back to regular dynamic drivers. And yeah, these things cost a LOT of cash o_o

Hmm, check out Stax headphones. They're pricey, but are supposed to perform really well. I got to audition some Audeze cans a couple of years ago, and they were... well, suffice to say I felt disappointed the moment I tried listening to music out of my own headphones again XD

The older Martin Logan speakers (before 1995) were infinitely better than the new ones. Martin Logan began to target the Circuit City demographic. The high end boutique audio stores in my town will no longer carry Martin Logan. They will not carry Quad electrostatic speakers as well now that they were bought by a Chinese company and are assembled in China. The quality is not what it used to be.
@Cyril29a
@Cyril29a 2 жыл бұрын
Martin Logan made great speakers until about 2006, 1995 is a bit of an exaggeration. They were sold to Shoreview in 1995 which is when the decline happened.

@maxcorrea9334

@@fernandomaximotorres Because B&W maintain their tradition of research with dynamic drivers, martin logan focuses on maximum electrostatic efficiency while B&W focuses on maximum efficiency on dynamic. a majority of amps do not require coolers, namely ones that use high quality components, amps that use large coolers have poor thermal properties, since this does not, it means that it stays cool easier, which also means better. so no, not shitty.

I'm sorry, but trying to match a dipole radiator with a cabinet speaker is going to be suspect. If you know what to look for you will notice it and it will grate on you. The old CSL was an awesome product in spite of its deficiencies. ML should offer a pure electrostatic speaker again, and leave the thumping bass to Wilson.

Electrostatis speakers, I have never heard about them. Are they really good? if so why they are not widely used on HiFi Hi End speakers?? lets say Klipsh, Polk Audio, Paradigma, Monitor Audio, B&W.. etc
@SwillyumsSnacks
@SwillyumsSnacks 10 жыл бұрын
A few reasons, if you still care. They're often at a much higher price range. The ones in this video could very well be over $10 000. They're also logistically difficult, as they're large, require lots of stable power ($$$), and will often kill themselves. Little sparks cause spontaneous holes, and eventually require repair. I've heard them likened to Italian sports cars; they preform wonderfully, but aren't the most convenient things around.
@rolandoiceful
@rolandoiceful 9 жыл бұрын
They actually made tests punching holes into it and still working great. If you stop by a BestBuy they can show you the awesome tech that is Martin Logan. I am planning on getting their speakers but probably not there electostatic since they arint on wall. Except the EFX ($3,095 per pair)

They’re popular in the high-end headphone space, but they _require_ a high-voltage amplifier to function. These things demand serious power.

Unless you have a dedicated room with all room conditions addressed it's highly unlikely Logan's will give an outstanding performance, I like some Logan's sound just not very good for living areas within the home unless you have spare floor space to drag them 3 to 5 feet inside the room .

13 yr -20 yr life span on electrostatic film. UV destroy it, thus no windows shinning on it. Used market has a few , but i would not bet on it. they increase 3x price to repair/replace the electrostatic portion. Thus you are likely have to repair it after as life is thin after 10 + years..

Electrostatics make box speakers sound a bit poor. You have to spend vast amounts of money to get a box loudspeaker to compare. Id avoid any hybrid panel cone woofer speaker. Stick to pure electrostatics. They do have bass. Quad 57/63. Awesome loudspeakers. 2 pairs of quad 57s is about as good as it gets

trickery , that's why I 've built speakers. the precious things from the store is much worse . many underestimate the kits because they only pay 500-1000 dollars for it , then they do not understand that one must have an amplifier for about $ 10,000 for and get them to sing. or build a hypex amplifier and get good sound. many think they have good equipment , the bass I see here is garbage and amplifier. but so it is with all finished products. but I had to buy ready bass bin, is not easy and build a solid and small subwoofer that looks good is practical and playing deep as a JL Audio subwoofer, I have built many that play better but difficult and buy dy amplifiers that are practical and will fit into a small box with big element. so some brands are good but it is rarely . You shall build even remember and use seas kit, it is important to have a kit and not design a self create idea , if you can manage it ought be a speaker konstruør
