Was really interested in how the bottoms and tops were attached it to the cylindrical shell (i.e., forming the chimes). Found it - U.S. Patent No. 3,425,381, Feb 4, 1969,

Are shipping drums still used widely in the oil industry? It doesn't seem very efficient to fill those/drain then, especially when they have cargo ships that act like one big barrel...

StephenB so a auto repair shop is gonna wanna buy a whole ships worth of oil to do oil changes with instead of one barrel? ur fucking stupid
@marshallallensmith2 жыл бұрын
Not much anymore in the crude oil industry but they have certainly found uses in other chemical and petrochemical industry applications such as shipping finished bulk materials.
@marshallallensmith2 жыл бұрын
PS: If you do the calculations then a cylinder still seems the be the ideal container shape for applications where you need to maximise space while also maintaining strength, uniformity, and ease of handling requirements :) The only way to really beat that is to do as you mentioned and just fill a special ships hull itself full of oil.
@marshallallensmith2 жыл бұрын
@@fandango_buttlicks You don't put crude oil in your engine... Motor oil is a refined product. It either ships in rail tanker cars or 55g drums unless being broken down to plastic gallon and quart containers for consumer grade purchase.

@lifeofreggiewoods3 жыл бұрын
i’d say around 5 years, simply because the metal will rust. (i use these drums as bunker and coverage on an outdoor lasertag field) the top tend to start rusting and cracking around that time. maybe even less

Super interesting but the soundtrack is painful. It seems like nearly all shows like this have super horrible background music. At least some smooth jazz, Please! I'm really curious tho, what genre of music would you call this?
