Snow globes, music boxes and jack in the boxes use similar mechanisms to produce their music. Here's a great detail video that shows how they work.

Hi - I have a music box that has an on/off switch....the music plays/rotates fine, plays at a good speed, but there is a buzz noise that you hear as the music plays. How do I get rid of that? Anyone? I've WD-40'd the spin governor, and key area already.

You didn't mention the stopper wire/bar, and that you don't get one with a new music box (you have to buy one separately, or make it.)

I have this music box but when I try to wind it up it makes a high click sound not a low one and it won't play the mice the only way it can play the music if I turn the little figger do you now what's wrong and how I can fix it and how do you take a music box a part because I cant do it

My musical snow globe has slowed right down and stops and starts sometimes. Could this be fixed or will it need a new music box mechanism? Thanks

I would go through the gears. It's likely that something has clogged the gears or one of them has fallen out of it's original pivot. Put the unit under a magnifying glass to see what's going on before ordering a new mechanism.

My music box is wound too tight (I think), and I have taken apart and tried to get the regulator to move and it won’t. I added a drop of wd40 to the top and bottom of the regulator, but it still won’t move. What should I do? Also, I seem to have a manual internal arm that that is locked as well, it’s off the side of the drum.

You definitely don't want to use WD-40 on the music box mechanism, as dust will eventually settle in and clog up the works even more. Music box mechanism's typically don't require any lubrication at all because they are not constantly running, or synthetic clock oil could be used instead. Worst case scenario, you can always get another music box mechanism from The Music House

I accidentally removed the fan like- piece and the black top was stuck, i can't move it to put the piece back-

If you're unable to fix your music box mechanism, you may consider replacing it. A lot of these music boxes use the same type of mechanism, only the cylinder is different. Try musicboxattic.com They have all kinds of simple and high end music box mechanisms.

When I wind up my music box it clicks a couple of times and then the resistance is gone and it won't wind up anymore. Do you know if I can fix this?

Thank you for your quick reply! Unfortunately that is not my problem :( . The spring has not fallen into the housing. I don't think there is a way to open the housing, so I cannot see what the problem is.

There are places that sell musical cylinders that come with nearly any type of licensed music. Swapping cylinders would only be practical on larger music box units, not on these small ones. If you want to change the music in your box, go to a place that services music boxes or visit www.musichouseshop.com

If you want to change the music in you music box, you can either swap in a new cylinder or buy a new movement from Music Box Attic. Obviously, replacing the entire movement is the simple choice. Here's the web address: www.musicboxattic.com/music-movements-modules/

I do have the same music box and when I turn the key it is just clicking, but nothing happened. I could turn it forever. Anything else is working. The spring seems to not be wided (sorry for my English). Can you help on that problem please?

Thanks, but I fixed it already. Had to brake a bit open of the black plastic and clip the spring and now it's working again
