I am a beginner, but I find your videos so helpful! I watch them over and over again (often on half-speed): I watch without reading the captions, then rewatch and pay attention to captions & grammar. This series is so exceptionally well done, and I am very grateful for your efforts.

The biggest changes I've seen is each time I go to Italy are that I see less people speak dialett' and more people speaking Italian.

ciao Katie, bel video, interessante, sono italiano ma l'ho guardato molto volentieri. al minuto 01:30 la signora Patrizia dice "poi io vedo che" e non "poi capito perché" Buon anno e continuate così.

No, la trascrizione è corretta. I suoni consonantici nell'accento napoletano (e più in generale, negli accenti centro-meridionali) sono molto più dolci rispetto a quelli dell'italiano standard e degli accenti settentrionali, fino al punto, a volte, di essere addirittura muti. Ad un orecchio non allenato, infatti, la "c", la "t" e la "p" intervocaliche possono suonare, rispettivamente, come una "g", una "d" e una "b". Nel caso specifico, se ascolti attentamente, puoi notare come le "p" nelle parole "capito" e "perché" diventino impercettibili, quasi mute, e come invece la "t" abbia un suono molto più dolce rispetto a quello standard.

@5:00 This young lad reminded me of Bill Hicks’ splendid joke about ‘hunger’ and motivation for doing, well, anything really. It’s related to drugs but could be applied here as younger people kind of just look around and shrug a bit at the world: “They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do just as well - you just realize that it's not worth the f***ing effort. There is a difference.”

l love Patrizia and the subject of this video. Most interesting to me were the allusions to feminism and the enduring value placed on family togetherness (both of which I admire and support.) But I wonder: can the Italian family adapt to the point where women are no longer seen as domestic servants, i.e., where both sexes are presumed to have a place in the kitchen, each according to their *individual* interests and desires? I was also intrigued by the comments of the woman who noted that some women are still piu sottomessa, poco indipendente and willing to "accept negative things from her partner" (by which I presume she meant abuse). I don't know how easy it would be to solicit responses on this issue, but I'd love to know more.

How can you make blatant mistakes in translation? C'è bisogno di tempo = "There's need of time." This is the valid English translation. We need time = "Abbiamo bisogno di tempo." IMO, translating colloquially causes confusion for the learner.
