Depp wasn't stealing Thompson's soul; he was being entrusted with it.

I grew up in the late ‘60’s-early ‘70’s and have been a fan of HST’s ever since. Johnny nailed Hunter and to this day still carries a little Hunter with him. Fear and Loathing is Hunter’s Great Gatsby. An homage to a lost period of America. I miss Hunter and those far away times.

Bill Murry informed Johnny that once he entered the character of Hunter, he would carry some of him around from there on out. Or maybe it was, once the character of Hunter enters you?

H. S. Thompson is probably one of my favorite Authors to learn about and get to study also probably just one of my favorite authors for his style and ability to storytell while also keeping you entertained and often shocking you every once in a while! an absolute legend

I knew of the book from the 70s. I later read the book. Then I saw the movie. Mr Depp did a wonderful portrayal in the movie. Mind boggling! I believe there is a little of Mr Thompson in Captain Jack Sparrow. 😂. Thank you for this presentation, very informative. The Atomik sends. Peace ✌. 😊

This was absolutely fantastic. I can't have asked for a better mini-doco about this. Thompson's/Depp's relationship has always been something I have found very interesting, and this is the perfect summary of it. Well done!!!!!

I didn’t know Depp went to these lengths to portray HST. What a fun and great movie that’s makes one reflect on his own days of chaos and exploration. I need to watch it again soon.

I have a deep admiration for this particular film, which I had the pleasure of watching numerous times during my teenage years in the early 2000s. It was a time of exploration and experimentation for me, as I dabbled with various substances. The film, however, provided more than just entertainment; it offered a truly captivating and immersive experience. As I entered my mid-20s, my curiosity led me to delve further into the world of this film. I sought out the book, the audiobook, and even recordings related to it. I wanted to fully immerse myself in the story and gain a deeper understanding of its themes and characters. It was during my late 20s that I found myself in Las Vegas for a convention I had no intention of attending. I was accompanied by my own version of Dr. Gonzo, embracing a wild and reckless spirit. In a state of complete intoxication, I chose not to partake in the typical activities of the city's casinos. Instead, I indulged in the company of women and the allure of drugs, fully embracing the hedonistic lifestyle that the film seemed to embody.

As incredible as Thompson was his style of journalism, which coming from a singular person is refreshing and can yield some incredible insights, seems to have infected the practice at the corporate level. Everyone who calls themselves a journalist now makes no attempt at objectively reporting events. Everyone injects themselves into the story in an attempt to noth satiate their ego and to influence the way those events are thought about. It's to the point to where you jave to question everything about the way any event is reported in an attempt to get to the truth. This sort of thing is fine for a character like Thompson, but not for a news network who reports daily on the events of the world.

I hope one day you uncover the development of X-MEN movie. There's a lot of unused script and my favorite is Andrew Kevin Walker version, the X-Men are Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Ice man, Angel and Wolverin. They fight Brotherhood of Mutant (Magneto, Toad, Sabertooth, Blob, Juggernaut) in the island of Manhatan. It's like power ranger story in the Point of View of Sixth Ranger.

It would be interesting to see how many other character actors got involved with who they are portraying, and what that involvement looked like. I am only referring to living characters, such as this scenario, and how that relationship was between the two during the process, as opposed to the joker or such characters. Another interesting thing is how the man was admired, and how many people in recent times have had such an epic memorial send off, as well as an impact on another person/persons, that they are willing to pony up millions of dollars, for an insane vision that you had conjured up for your final farewell. It would be hard to imagine that very many people at all, have had such an influence on another human being nonfamily member. (meaning not feeling obligated by other family members to do so. etc.) They wanted this for him.

The only other person who is as skilled at embodiment of someone using vocal stylings is Heath Ledger. When i first heard his joker voice i thought, my god, its Tom Waits. Then years later i read an interview with Heath who confirmed he drew inspiration from Tom Waits.

the Ray Ban Shooters are a critical part too, to the point Hunter let him have a pair of his own. He wore the yellow lenses in them and in 62 mm as well, and you can't get those yellow lensed Ray Bans anymore. You can get them in green lenses now, which is the type I have.
