I met Mr. Schnabel briefly at the Denver Art Museum. He was gracious and kind.

Schnabel is the walking definition of "creative rut". I have never seen an artwork by him that qualifies as being excellent, well-executed, or a successful unified composition. Probably his major deficit is having been excessively praised, rewarded, and almost deified all his life.

What I like about Julian - he is "Art For Art Sake" (true he capitalizes on his true nature but why shouldn't he) - I am into his visual Art - I know little about the movie or video side of him - but of course i am into Visual Art - After many years of painting and the world of visual Art i see these people trying to make it "BIG" these are money and fame seekers not Artist? Not to say the two can not go hand and hand but still - Does this mean i would not like money and fame - No - but that is secondary to me - not primary - there's a difference - and i sense Julian falls into this category - Thank you Julian always a pleasure -

I literally didn't listen to a word he said. I just stared at his sun glasses and thought ''I wonder why they're yellow, I bet they make things more vivid or something, wow, I should get some of those, I wonder if they are for some visual problem''.

Yes it does...and if you watch his films you'll know he's all in, passionate, generous with what he knows and does.

There's only one bar for competence in the fine art world: Can you make a living out of it? If people pay you enough for your paintings, regardless of how they look, then you pass.
