Only some families don’t speak panjabi in Pakistani Punjab. I am from Lahore. I know most of people speak panjabi even in offices.

but it's not allowed in the Punjab senate and neither are any Punjabi specific TV channels. The last I checked, education is also not imparted in Punjabi.

حیرت ہے کہ پنجابی کے بارے میں پنجاب میں ایسی سوچ پائی جاتی ہے ہم ساری زندگی کراچی میں رہتے آئے ہیں۔ہم پنجابی ہیں اور ہمارے والدین جالندھر سے ہجرت کر کے آئے تھے۔ہمارے گھروں میں ابھی تک آپس میں پنجابی میں بات کرتے ہیں اور فخر محسوس کرتے ہیں۔کبھی شرمندگی نہیں ہوئی۔اردو ہماری بہترین ہے کوئی پہچان نہیں پاتا کہ پنجابی ہیں۔جبکہ پنجاب کے لوگ چائے اردو اسپیکنگ ہی کیوں نہ ہو ان کے لہجے میں پنجابی پن ٹپکتا ہے۔

Please tell Ms Tamkenat that we are very very proud of our languages. Punjabi is loved in Punjab and rest of India. Everybody who knows the language used it very proudly. Same goes for Marathi, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, Urdu and even Kashmiri. Unlike Pakistan we are not ashamed of our regional languages.

It's not the case with all and always to avoid speaking Punjabi. Well I am myself saraiki speaking being my mother tongue and I feel it my pride to speak saraiki language but I am working with Punjabis here. We all communicate in Punjabi language preferably. If one stops speaking in his or her mother tongue, then one will contribute to deaden the language in the long run and the coming generations will be unaware of the language that was once a living language and a means of communication amongst people in the past.

is Saraki a dialect of Punjabi? was it very easy for you to switch to Punjabi?

@@nitishsaxena1372 yes dear. Saraiki is a language with it's rich cultural heritage. People tend to be different in their language and literature, art and architecture, history, music, politics, mindset, script and otherwise. Saraiki language is different in accent that makes it distinct either from Punjabi or even Sindhi. The accent of saraiki is considered to be the sweetest of all the languages spoken across the sub continent ie India and Pakistan alike. Yes you are right that I did not find it difficult to have a grasp over Punjabi because there are number words used commonly both in saraiki and Punjabi alike.

@@nitishsaxena1372 Yes I am from Pakistank Punjan with family roots back in Multan.And yes Multani/Sariki is dialect of Punjabi language. Sariki is just Punjabi with heavy accent and contain few words of Sindhi language.

Aaj kal zabaan mai angrezi ki alfaaz kaseer taadad mai istemal hote hai to zaban mai ab wo rawani Rahi nahi. Mai ye nahi kehta ke angrezi ke alfaaz bilkul istemal nahi hone chahiye, lekin agar humari apni zaban mai mutabadil maujud hai to fir kyu na use istemal kiya jaye. Baaqi angrezi ke wo alfaaz Jo ab maadari zabaan ka hissa ban chuke hai, unhe istemal karne mai koi harz nahi, jaise ki Rail, train, station vagaira vagaira.

my whole family speak in punjabi and even where i live everyone speak punjabi and if you search on google most spoken language in pakistan is punjabi its true that today kids don't speak punjabi i know how to speak but when i speak i use mostly urdu word but some lines in punjabi because we speak urdu in school that's why it's kind of habit to speak in urdu and its also true that some people think that if they speak in punjabi maybe they look poor and pendo.

Unlike Pakistan who made Urdu its national language, Insia didn't do it. The people in Indian Punjab speak Punjabi very proudly and is strongly connected to Punjabiyat. And the situation she tells that people in Pakistani punjab don't want to be seen speaking Punjabi due to societal pressure is nothing particular to just Punjabi. It relates all native language. If you go to UP, people in upper class wouldn't even speak in Hindi, they will prefer English, same for Marathi in Maharashtra, Bhojpuri in Bihar

I think it's not that bug of an issue...I mostly speak urdu but I am completely comfortable with ounjabi as well and so is everyone in punjab that I know of...it's just that the language is not a matter of ego for us
