A light switch clicking on and off is at the center of an unnerving sequence in “The Exorcist: Believer.”
Leslie Odom Jr. stars as Victor Fielding, a father whose daughter (Lidya Jewett) had been missing and only just returned, quite different from when she left. Narrating this sequence, the director David Gordon Green said, “I’m starting to establish the unnerving quality of a father that can’t quite explain the behavior of his daughter.”
He does this by using a continuous timeline, with the scene playing out as if in real time even though there are numerous shots.
“That slow burn,” he said, “that time where there’s no gimmicks that you can process as a viewer, it adds a strange expectation of when something is going to happen.” The scene’s eerie conclusion helps to set up the mayhem that will soon follow.

Very well done. When a movie gives you scenes that scare you already without any CGI without any gore you know you are in for a treat when those effects come into play later.

Well. Saw it for free on Friday at universal studios. Omg it's bad. The girls and most the crew were let down by an incredibly bad script. And it also seems they are too scared to upset anyone. No blasphemy. No sexual overtones from the girls. Nothing. Shame really as the girls were absolutely amazing. Though if regans demon was an offensive 10/10. Thiers was a 2/10

No sexual overtones? ummm I don’t know you review is even appropriate. First off both of these girls are 15 and 16 years old. So wanting them to say inappropriate things in a movie when they’re that age is disgusting for you to say. And secondly blasphemy? No scary movie has to have blasphemy. Most of the people in this world are Christians and they won’t just sacrifice their religion for a movie. Are you stupid

Yeah I agree 💯 I went to see it this past weekend and it was definitely atrocious. I was super disappointed and also upset I wasted the time and money to go to this abomination.

I love the exorcist 1973. This one was not it for me. This scene, with the light off and on, was terrible. That's not playing with light to create scenes, it's a very cheap gimmick. A24 should have gotten the chance.

This play with lights reminded me of Lights out. Old horror light play was like flicking rapidly this one is more steady but it didn't wow me. I didn't see the exorcist and probably am not seeing jt but I guess the fact she is being spoken to with the lights is what makes it stand out

Nah A24 would've been slow af for an hour n half n then crazy outv of nowhere for the last 15 minutes lol Hereditary was great but I've been let down to many times since.

This movie was absolutely TERRIBLE and I regret the $100 I spent. I only don't regret it because I was able to take my husband and daughter on her first date with her boyfriend.

Can’t Hollywood come up with original idea anymore? Does every remake have to be with black cast ? At least get better actors. Standards have really gone down for the sake of EQUITY .

Movie SUCKED. Sorry to say but it was RUINED. Let's just all get together and sing Kumbaya and defeat the point of a scary movie and now like ALL movies make the self entitled the heros of the movies......
