X-rays might educate us on so many aspects of our universe. They carry knowledge about supernovae collisions, black holes, and exploding stars. But the problem was the x-ray telescopes we had were very limited in terms of field of view. At any given time, we could only observe a small fraction of the universe. But thanks to lobsters, that's not an issue anymore.
Lobsters have unique eyes that allow them to sense moments even in the deepest and the murkiest of waters. This helps them survive in an environment where food and light are scarce. What makes their eyes even more interesting is their impressive field of vision. They have square-shaped tubes in their eyes that reflect light from different locations on their retina.
Researchers from China came up with an x-ray telescope with a similar structure to lobsters’ eyes. By using similar square-shaped tubes with mirrors inside, they gather light at a wider area and scientists can use the information they gather from x-rays to answer some questions on black holes. LEIA, standing for Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy, is already operational and is observing the universe.

*_I just tested 'Larry' my pet Lobster for Xray sensitivity..._* I have an industrial strength Xray machine we use to check welds in structural steel. I have used it for other 'purposes' but never a live Lobster. 'Larry' didn't seem to mind in the beginning. But later on in the 'experiment', Larry the Lobster stopped moving. We performed CPR and called 911. When the EMT's arrived, they ask where was the victim named Larry. We pointed them to the back shops where we Xray steel. They rushed back there, but were bewildered as they saw no victim laying on the floor. We pointed them to the very large fish tank and introduced them to Larry the Lobster. Did you know when you cook Lobster, it changes color from pale pinkish to bright red? Well, we never knew that. Here was Larry the Lobster bright red and floating face down in the water. EMT's immediately went into Lifesaving Mode. They dived into the water and pulled Larry out. They checked vitals, but when they tried to put a blood cuff on to measure Blood Pressure, Larry's arm fell off. Did you know when you cook Lobster their legs and claws tend to fall off? We never knew that. EMT's were quite traumatized at this point. They did use the electric paddles on Larry to see if they could get an actual heart beat.... nope. A short time later, the Coroner arrived to declare Larry the Lobster 'Deceased'. Police and Fire also arrived. Did you know that industrial strength Xrays can easily pass through walls and paint neighbors with lethal doses of invisible energy? Yeah, we didn't know that either... Lesson Learned: Larry the Lobster can 'see' reflected Xrays that we Humans can't. Lobsters can live at deep depths and survive no problem, but expose them to 50,000 rems of radiation and all of a sudden they turn bright red, their legs and claws fall off, and neighbors several miles away start glowing in the dark. *_Yeah, we didn't know any of that... But Larry did taste pretty good after 'experiment'._*

They are boiled alive to prevent food poisoning. Lobsters and other shellfish have harmful bacteria naturally present in their flesh. Once the lobster is dead, these bacteria can rapidly multiply and release toxins that may not be destroyed by cooking. You therefore minimize the chance of food poisoning by cooking the lobster alive.
