I think you have hit on one of the key issues. Those of a mind to take out a weapon and use it to kill do not see short jail sentences as a deterrent. Stop and search is neither lawful nor an answer to this issue. My right to free unhindered movement should not be removed. I have a right to walk down the street without being unlawfully detained at random, and having my pockets turned out simply because some officer doesn't like the cut of my jib! Police need a lawful reason to detain and search somebody, and "looking suspicious" doesn't fucking cut it since that isn't a crime.

Stop and search should be standard procedure, its not rocket science, and put thousands of bobbies back on the streets. Army too if need be.
