Double board certified OBGYN and REI, Dr. Natalie Crawford explains how long it takes to get pregnant and what is normal when trying to conceive. She dives into fecundability, which is your chance of conceiving each month, egg quality, and when you need an evaluation. Yahoo published a survey that showed that nearly 60% of women say they wish they knew how long it would take to get pregnant before they started trying. So often women don’t prepare for or even think about trying to get pregnant until they’re ready. For so many, having kids is a life goal and in what other situation would you approach a life goal without any plans? Watch this video if you are planning to get pregnant now or in the future.
Questions answered:
What is fecund ability?What can determine egg quality?
What is advanced maternal age?
How does age determine your ability to conceive?
What are your chances of getting pregnant every month?
What is the definition of infertility?
When shouldn’t you wait for a fertility evaluation?
How can we de-stigmatize infertility?

I got pregnant unexpectedly at 42….15 YEARS after my fraternal twins and the usage of IUD’s for birth control. I lost my little one 9wks and 6days later. I have no idea how long it’ll take this time now that I’m actually gonna TRY. I’m praying my mind and body are ready for the journey tho. May we all be blessed with the bundles of joy we seek (from the creator of all things) sooner than we expect.❤️

Thank you for your wisdom! It was your video on "Egg Quality" that opened my eyes and I was able to get pregnant at age 39 last year after failing to do so the last 4 years. Before, I took prenatal pills whenever I remembered, but after understanding the need to make quality eggs, I made sure to take prenatal pills every morning by having them on my night stand. I also ensured my husband took his vitamins. After doing these for 4 months, we were able to get pregnant and now we have a cute and healthy 2 months old baby boy. Thank you so, so much. ❤

Education is all. My mom made sure my sister and I understand our body, our cycles and how decisions (good or bad) was going to affect the outcome. She did so since our first period and was so important to prevent and later to have children. I really didn’t want kids in my 20’s but I wish them in my 30’s. At 29 I started to tracking my cycles and knowing more how I was doing. I was worried I might have a problem and didn’t know about. My friends called me a very calculating person but I wasn’t wrong. We planned our school and professional paths. We plan budgets and how we want to invest in things. Why I shouldn’t plan for this? I had my first at 30 and my second at 35. I was blessed but also did my homework.

I started ttc at 28, I got pregnant after 6mo, had an early miscarriage and then got pregnant again at 29 another 7mo later. So overall it took me a little over a year to get pregnant and was considered “normal” time frame. Although it was a very difficult waiting season emotionally. And I was using ovulation strips, CMM and timed Intercourse every single month

Dear Natalie, I just found your chanel and your advices are very useful and inspiring! Can I ask if you are still vegan? I follow wfpb vegan diet for 12 years - but my dietetian tried to persuade me to eat a few animal protein during TTC. My BMI is too low and she said it's hard to gain weight on vegan diet and I should eat some cheese and eggs for conceiving. But I don't want to give up vegan diet... Thank you for your advice in advance 😊

Luck and chance happen to us all. I got pregnant the month after I got off birth control. I’m 17 weeks now. I was nervous it would take a long time. I’m 31 years old. I’m a bit shocked at how fast however I want to wait after the first for the second. But for how long? Is there any research on have a second baby at 35. Does it still get harder even if you’ve had your first? Same odds.

I’ve been ttc for 4 months but I’ve had very irregular heavy periods all my life. I’m 24, but I’m afraid that I’m wasting my time because I’ve never found an answer for my inconsistent periods. I’m always told “try for a year first” but if I’m not ovulating, or have undiagnosed PCOS, then why does that matter? Should I be doing something else right now?

I’m 25 and my husband and I want to start trying for our first baby. I’m very anxious about our fertility and would love to get tested and evaluated. How are we supposed to do this when doctors won’t even think about it until you’ve been trying for a year? So much treatment can be done in a year if something is actually wrong. You can see a private clinic and pay out of pocket but the average people don’t have that kind of money. Fertility testing should be included in preventive care

Is the odds per cycle inclusive of miscarriages? We’ve been trying for over a year now (9 cycles) but have had 2 chemicals and 2 early miscarriages. Am I included in the statistic of having conceived “within a year”, or am I in the haven’t conceived in a year bucket. Is my chance still about 20% (I’m 31) per month?

It took us 16 months (unexplained infertility). Our first medicated IUI worked. I hope we don’t have to go down that road again for #2 but the doctors we worked with are wonderful so we would be comfortable if we needed to. I was TTC using donor sperm with at home insemination. Started at 34. Took 5 tries spread over 10 months and I conceived only to miscarriage. Tried 4 more times. Then paused for 10 months and tried for the 10th time buying dinor sperm at 36 years old and conceived my daughter. She was born two weeke before my 37th birthday. She is sleeping upstairs and just turned one last month. I realky want to try for one more, but now I’m 38 and the emotionaly rollercoaster of trying with donor sperm is so hard. The hope. The crash. But I never wanted an only child.

Statistically if you are under 37, then after 1 year your rate per month drops to 4-5% chance
@busrad.528
@busrad.528 2 ай бұрын
@@NatalieCrawfordMD im not understanding what that means does it mean that every month as you're trying to get pregnant your chances get lower and lower but isn't it 20% every month? Should we stop trying for several months and then start again to have our chances up higher is that what it means because once your chances are lower doesn't mean that it's going to stay low?
@stephanieh997

@@busrad.528I suspect what it means is that if you are under 37 and you have not conceived within a year then your chances were more likely to be in the 4-5% chance per month group. If that is the case then your chance continues to be 4-5% chance each month.
