00:19 I was injected with Technetium-99m
00:30 What is the half life of Technetium-99m?
00:40 I do have a Geiger Counter
01:03 My radiation test card
01:19 I just had my injection
01:32 LeeAnn brings in the Geiger Counter from a distance
01:42 The first readings
01:56 The Inverse Square Law
02:25 Radiation reading at 3ft 7536
02:30 Radiation reading at 4ft 6300
02:36 Radiation reading at 6ft 2700
03:00 Is my Urine radioactive also?
03:06 Tissue after I blew my nose

03:44 Dose next to chest at 6+ hours
03:49 Radiation reading at 3ft - 6+hrs later 3000
04:08 Radiation reading at 6ft - 6+hrs later 1600
04:28 Is that SPAM radioactive?
04:32 24 hours later
04:32 Is most of the isotope really out of your system at 24hrs?
05:00 Dose next to chest at 24 hours
05:20 Radiation reading at 3ft - 24 hrs later 375
05:36 Radiation reading at 6ft - 24 hrs later 190
05:59 48 hours later
06:14 Dose next to chest at 48 hours
06:33 Radiation reading at 3ft - 48 hrs later 30
07:11 Day 3 - 72+ hours later
07:20 Dose next to chest at 72 hours
07:39 Normal background radiation
What I used:
GQ GMC-500Plus Geiger Counter - amzn.to/4dLY0Fy
After a nuclear medicine isotope injection I wondered, just how radioactive was I? Well the answer is ALOT - VERY Radioactive, but how long will I remain radioactive? Watch as I track the levels of radioactivity over a 72-hour period using a Geiger counter in this fascinating experiment. Join us as we explore how long radioactivity lasts in different materials and environments, with readings taken at 6, 24, 28, and 72 hours. Stay tuned to find out if radioactivity truly vanishes or if it lingers longer than expected!

I wouldn't have thought you would have stayed radioactive so long. Great video!

Yes, I wasn't sure and when I read that it would would only be about 24hrs, I thought that didn't sound right - Thank you for the comment!

Technetium is great, its radioactive in gamma emissions at 140kev or so i believe. At 140kev almost everything just passes through you like you were not even there.

Great info - I always wonder who thought of/invented Nuc Med test that uses stuff like that - amazing - Thank you for the comment.

At that energy, the half-value thickness of muscle is 4.4cm, fat 6.5 cm and bone 2.9 cm. So most of the gamma photons are absorbed by the body but sufficient escape to allow measurement without an unreasonable absorbed dose.

Right! I was like LeeAnn don't stand too close to me. They said to avoid children and pregnant people, good advice - Thank you for the comment!

I'm not gonna lie, you are getting a lot of radiation at the beginning (349 microSv/h), but to say after 48 hours, you are basically safe is a correct statement. There are parts of the world with a background radiation of 3 microSv/h or more in India, and people live there don't have too much trouble. You are also not giving many other people with lots of Rads either. After 24 hours and outside 6fts, its just a bit elavated background radiation. In total your dosage maxout at about 5 mSv (assume 400 microSv/h max for 6 hours, and half life of 6 hours, amount to 400 * 6 * (1+1/2+1/4+...= 2) = 4.8mSv), pretty standard for any Barium meal.

You should tried to film yourself in dark, just to see if camera would pick it up as radioactive noise.

72 hours is way shorter than i would have expected without the start of the video. ( but i also didn't know there were reasons to inject people with radiation other than iodine-131 for murdering thyroid cells )

Yes, I worked in the medical radiation my whole life, so the question is, is the dose of radiation out weight the risk of the disease you are looking for. Is the risk of a heart attack greater than the risk of the radiation? I decision each person has to make - Thank you for the comment!

But the 24 hours could have been accurate, since you didn't consider the half-life of the tracer itself
