Peter Tosh is famous for his legendary music and activism. But what most don't know is that the Stepping Razor's almost extreme radical exploits were directly linked to the grief he suffered after the loss of his girlfriend, Yvonne Whittingham

I knew Peter before he met the love of his life. Also, I knew of her and family before he met her. I can tell many stories. She suffered a lot for him and he was dedicated to her and proud of her. The world knew Peter as a rough, revolutionary, and an artist; but my friends and I had the privilege of experiencing the other side of him. He was a caring, tenderhearted humanitarian. Beneath the course, (BBC) exterior was someone to cherish. I remember when Bob got what I believe was his first car, a white two-door Ford Escort, Peter dragged me along on a very memorable tour out in the country. I was in the backseat between Bunny and Peter, while Bob drove up front with company. I wish I had the means then to tape the fantastic sounds those three produced that night. They sang all their songs like it was a nonstop concert, pressing in and out of the rural areas. Amazing! My adventurous 18th year of life. Respect.

I have to say that to me, the changes in Peter’s personna were a result of the fractured skull he got from that savage beating in HWT lockup….the Peter I got to know as a High Schooler was brilliant n steadfast in his beliefs..he drove a champagne coloured Hillman (if memory serves) n I would go with him sometimes to the studio..he had ‘adopted’ me as a likkle sister…first time I knew that ganja was also called ‘marijuana’ , was due to seeing a magazine with that name as its title…thru him, I was able to meet so many of the foundation artistes of our music..my photo albums contain soooo many pictures….he was a true teacher…years later, he is now THE Peter Tosh n arrived in St Louis, Mo., where I was residing, for a show….got to hang out with him ..he wanted snapper so he sent me in the provided limo to get him fresh snapper…I have this wonderful picture of him pressing his clothes in his hotel room…he was forever the brother I never had…Sleep In Peace STEPPING RAZOR…

I think the beating actually gave rise to his thoughts that Rastafarianism was true and that he was being persecuted for the truth. Knowing now all the things I didn't know as a Rastafarian, I am sad for Peter. Growing up so poor, being heavily misled that some Ethiopian emperor is God, all the abuse he endured for ganja, all the suffering.. etc. Praying for his soul to be delivered, Jesus Christ have mercy.

They would only misrepresent and soil the image of Tosh because Rome has always hated the children of Jacob. They won’t promote him in a good light. Tosh’s music and life has the potential to awaken the kids of our people so they would rather assassinate his character. Peace, Sister-Queen. This is something I never considered. Brain damage was likely. The psychological trauma is clear, but actual brain injury didn't cross my mind. I know someone who was in a severe car accident and he's erratic, sometimes sweet and frequently quarrelsome and difficult. It may be partly who he's always been, but parts of it nuh look right. While I love the Wailers, I have what I also disliked as none of us is perfect. The only thing I wondered and still do is if Peter also suffered from bipolar disorder. This is NOT a diss; to me it would explain some things. Perhaps it's me wanting justifications and excuses so it's not just that this brilliant, freedom-loving brother wasn't just a callous jerk for no reason. It's also necessary to acknowledge another element that he and his bredren had to battle and those were spiritual attacks. Rest well, Sr Yvonne. I hope they had a loving reunion. I didn't plan for the comment to be so long. Smh. Joy, health, love, progress, fulfillment, wisdom and peace in 2024 and beyond. ❤💛💚🖤🙋🏿‍♀️

Peter was a genius, and a brilliant thinker and Peter like a lot of geniuses and brilliant people was a little bit crazy. @@MsWildberry1 Oh, my word...he thought he could fly?! Give Thanks you knew the vibe and intention. Many creatives in addition to being deeply sensitive (which can be a strength and liability), have some of these troubles. I deal with depression. I can't remember the title, but a few years ago I listened to part of a biography on Audible. I decided I'd have to find and read it on my own because the bad accents and Amharic was pronounced Aramaic. Anyway, I recall being alarmed and worried as I listened even though it was decades ago. Our folks didn't discuss topics like that much or openly. I'm thankful that your relatives had such beautiful encounters. Rest well to his son Jawara whom Babylon jailed for herb that ultimately led to his death😡. It would've been a scandal had it been a Marley. I say this as someone whose life has most been influenced by Bob outta the 3.

I’ve wondered about this since I became a Peter Tosh fan as a teenager. I knew Timothy White mentioned it in his Marley biography and that Peter’s mother, when she was interviewed for the “Red X” documentary, explained that her son had been a reckless driver. @@shayscott7498 "The system" is a course catch-all term that should not be used anymore. There were many factors in Tosh's vs Marley's success, including the fact that Marley was more amenable and friendly, and certainly because he was half white which was less intimidating to non-black listeners.

If I had the ability to bring back 5 people Peter Tosh would be on that list. Then Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Dedan Kemathi Wa Cuira & Vaughn Benjamin. Peter has earned all my respect
