I am not a KJV only advocate. But one of the things I really LIKE about the KJV is for that which it is so often attacked and criticized -its archaic language. Personally, I like reading a Bible that doesn't sound like it was originally written in 2019. I WANT some historical distance. The Bible is a very old book (about 4000 years). And so I like reading a Bible that gives a sense of "distance." Another plus for the KJV is that one cannot read it "fast." That is, the KJV "MAKES" you slow down--which promotes, I think, more attention, reflection and meditation. But I want to be clear--I read and use a number of translations. I will list them and give a short explanation as to why I like and use them: 1. The ESV for its majestic tone, accuracy, and for its flow when reading it. 2. The NKJV when I don't want to slow down so much and just read a modern KJV. Besides, it also is a very accurate translation. [Please no invitations to discuss textual criticism]. 3. The NASB which I use for study--because of its literalness, using italics for words that are not in the biblical text, and because it uses all small caps when the New Testament is citing from the Old Testament. It's so great to see so clearly when the N. T. writers are quoting from the O. T. 4. The KJV for its beauty and dignity of expression, its grandeur, its musical and rhythmic cadence that makes for ease in memorization and finally--and its "Authoritative" tone. I mean, who can beat "Thus saith the Lord." And so, I use these four translations on an every day basis (because I'm retired--LOL). THE THING I MOST WANT TO PROMOTE IS that Christians use an actual "TRANSLATION" as opposed to a paraphrase (which so often is NOT TRUE to the original languages of the Bible (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek). Praise Jesus and blessings to all God's children.

Amen! I became a Christian a few years ago at age 28 and reading the KJV was instrumental in my faith being built up. I personally do not think I would have sensed the presence of God through His word if I hadn't been reading the KJV. Not KJV onlyist but its the version i read the most. It gives me comfort, I feel closer to God whilst reading it and its wonderful for memorization. I get sneered at a LOT for reading an "outdated" version and have had some pressure to read The Message which I simply cannot engage with. I just ignore them, but I dont understand why there's so much hate and venom based off what version someone reads. You'd think people would be just glad the bible gets read!

If you don't like the archaic English of the KJV then try the KJV ER (easy read). It updates the archaic English without changing any scripture.

how very sad. Even if you were to switch to one of the newer translations --those based on manuscripts without multiple witnesses (a Torah requirement reiterated by Jesus)-- you'd be much much better off with the NASB than the ESV. If you were to spend serious time and patiently go verse-by-verse for a couple chapters (anywhere in the NT) comparing the KJV, NASB and ESV, you'd see that the ESV is woefully inadequate and compromising. Look at word order. Verb form rendering. (Look at KJV vs ESV's handling of the aorist indicative for example). Singular vs plural & implicit vs explicit pronouns. Then also notice the KJV & NASB _italicize_ translator-supplied words (as do other scholarly works); the ESV does not. Beside all this, many of the receiving-language words the ESV employs are just NOT right. The ESV, for example uses, "predict" where the NASB, KJV and NET bible use "prophesy." Vegas bookies make predictions, so do weathermen; Jesus prophesies. If you're interested, do the research yourself. But go primary source. Studying is not taking a lexicon derived from crossway's own translation to check against their translation. The quality of the ESV is really quite overblown. No really, it is.

John, I'd just like to point out that there is at least one translation of the Scriptures that is quite distorted in terms of how it teaches doctrines... The "New World Translation" used by JW's. The Joseph Smith translation too. Anyways I really like your podcasts. God bless you

I use kjv for my memorization. It's more poetic which makes it easier for me. I do my serious study in nasb and will compare it with nkjv and kjv because I am not kjv only but when i converse with brothers who are I'm gonna use the version of their choice. Its a stupid thing to have division over.

We all have sinned and fell short of the glory to God. The problem is, that God is holy and doesn’t live with sin. So we all deserve to go to hell, but Jesus paid the price so you don’t have to. All you have to do is confess Jesus as your savior and repent (turn from all sin) and you’ll be forgiven and on the way to heaven…

Grace, Peace, and LOVE In CHRIST. i must say i was surprised to hear Brother Piper say that "there are no English translations that he knows of that lead to major doctrinal error". There are indeed intentional mistranslations in the english language. The watch tower/'jw's', nlt, the message, there are a few. Dangerously, concerning salvific issues such as the diety of CHRIST, and much more in these liberal so called translations. i just want my Brother's and Sister's to be aware. YHWH Bless all the elect in KING YESHUA 👑

I am not an ESV fan for the very reasons in this video. See the liberty that ESV takes in 1 Thessalonians 4:4, translating vessel as body, and thereby moving more to commentary/interpretation than translation.
@AnHebrewChild
@AnHebrewChild 4 жыл бұрын
Edward Russell what do u just freely make things up and/or not fact-check yourself before speaking: Here is 1 THESS 4:4 NASB "that each of you know how to fnpossess his own vessel in sanctification and honor" The Holman CSB renders it, "that each of you knows how to control his own body in holiness and honor," With a footnote after body which reads, "Lit. to possess his own vessel" The ASV renders it, "that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor," The Young's literal translation, "that each of you know his own vessel to possess in sanctification and honour" The word is σκεῦος It appears in MAT 12:29 & MRK 3:27 (Jesus' parable about a strong man's goods) MRK 11:16 (Jesus forbids any man from carrying any _vessel_ through the temple) LUK 8:16 (no man lights a candle and covers it with a container/jar/vessel) JHN 19:29 ("now there was a vessel full of vinegar.." ie crucifixion scene) ROM 9:21 ("does the potter not have power over the clay to make one vessel/pot for honored use...") And many other places. - Please, we're dealing with the word of the living God here: don't just make stuff up. The literal meaning of the word in 1 THESS 4:4 is vessel as the KJV & NASB render it. The ESV, as the commenter above rightly pointed out, is here as in many places overly-involved in interpretative decisions rather than literal translation. Heck, even their own study bible footnote at 4:4 says "GREEK LITERALLY: "vessel." But that fine-print footnote is not included in all the ESV releases and not something everyone will see even in those which do include it. The fact is THE ESV TEAM OPTED (unlike the NASB, ASV, KJB and others) to tuck the literal word "vessel" away in fine print, and printed the same word the NIV went with "body" in the main text. "Well but.." Well but nothing. The ESV does this sort of nonsense constantly. Constantly: it's seriously ridiculous. This isn't opinion, it's verifiable fact. "He that has ears to hear, let him hear."

There are definite doctrinal differences between the many modern English bibles that we have today and the King James Bible. We were looking at a few comparisons tonight with our children, comparing the KJV to NIV. Ie. Proverbs 11:30 ‘The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.’ (KJV) ‘The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.’ (NIV) ^ You can see why a Calvinist needs the KJV reading changed. The NIV instead wants me to become a doctor and start saving peoples lives so that I can be wise. This also contradicts NT verses. Modern versions remove the instruction to study, and how study the Bible in the correct way. 2 Timothy 2:15. I could go on... many many differences. And subtle changes count too. Why not stick with the received text bible (King James Bible) that was passed down from our Christian forefathers. Rather than trusting not just the new English, but their new underlying Hebrew and Greek text from unbelievers. From manuscripts that were very obviously corrupted.

The additional 15 books, included in some bibles are called the Apocrypha. By Jewish and Christian tradition, they are not the inspired Words of God, and thus are not equated with Scripture. The exception being the Catholic Bible; Catholicism includes the words of the apocryphal writings in there Bible translations and doctrine.

"How Many Bible Versions Should I Read?" Kind Sir, you shouldn't read ANY bible; BEFORE you get on your knees (IF you are Born Again*) FIRST. Now if already Born Again; ask Jesus sincerely this; "Dear Jesus, the ONLY true God); and I know that you are the ONLY 'Innerant and Infallible' there will ever be." And then; you and those that are becoming Born Again's; ask Jesus for "Wisdom, Understanding and the Truth". And also say to Jesus, "Without that; satan will cause us to believe LIES in ALL bibles, that he inspired. And he will detour me around the Truths, in MOST bibles, that you inspired." Oh yes and get this. I went on the WEB to see how many Denominations there are. And it said 45,000 Denominations, Isn't that sad? Because each says, "We are Right and you are Wrong. And we get ours from the Bible!". Sad, but very true. And UNTIL you are become Born Again; and asking Jesus the above; do NOT open ANY bible. For if you don't do that; satan will laugh at you all your life. Oh yes. May Jesus have mercy... ...Thus, kind Sir and Brethren, Please Pray OFTEN and Praise Jesus OFTEN; for He is the ONLY true "God Almighty"; there will ever have been. And may Jesus bless you and yours always. AMEN! * To become Born Again, one must do (ever since Creation), what Jesus said in... John 3:15 Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish (in hell), but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave of his self; becoming the only "begotten Son", that whosoever believes in Him; shall not perish (in hell), but have everlasting life.

Our not-bornagain-legalistic translators messed up big time and made the bible contradict itself on multiple points. The original text, lit up by Holy Spirit, on the other hand is crystal clear. Some examples: 1. Orge in context means "passion" in stead of "wrath". So now translators made a loving God (in Him is light no darkness, He is never tempted to do evil, God is love, it pleases the Father to give you the kingdom, the Father himself loves you, etc, etc) suddenly become a vengefull God, from wich we have to be saved....? Utter BS. Through Jesus, God saves us from the fall of man and restores us back to His divine nature. The divine nature Adam let go of in the fall. Jesus beaten to pulp on a cross? Gods extreme passion to restore what got lost in the Garden: His divine power and love image in human form. 2. Sozo means "made complete" in stead of "saved". So now we are stuck with a stupid totally unbiblical "Repent! Or go to hell!" doctrine. In stead it has always been about transformation of human life back in to His image again. Repent btw actually means "change the way you think completely". That would be: "Wow, God loves me and restores me from the fall into His Image. Thank you Jesus, have your way in me with your Holy Spirit. You are amazing!!" 3. "Seeing Jesus comming on the clouds" actually reads "perceiving Jesus from a heavenly perspective". So now we have millions of ignorant Christians waiting for a bus to get them to heaven in stead of understanding that heaven came inside of them to transform them in to their original created value again. Read Gen 1:27 vs 2 Cor 3:18. Etc, etc, Therefore. The letter kills but the Spirit brings forth Divine life in abundance.

Yes you are correct kind Sir. However, there is another KJV ("Original") in 1611 AD; before the KJV "Authorized" in 1855 AD. And now the NKJV ("New") in 1982 AD. All three are different. Original has 80 books, Authorized has 66 books and the New has 66; but it has ALL Elizabethan words changed to what they should've been. IE: belief vs believeth; you vs thine and thou; among vs amongst, Etc. And many other wrong translations. Which is typical of all bibles. This due, to any English bible, was translated 4 times afore. Hebrew to Greek to Latin, Manuscripts (because all Scrolls are gone; and no one knows where they went.). And then into English. May Jesus bless you and yours always...
