In the game it says 15 or 20 to 1 and they lost a little over half their number in the battle accordingly to the docs terminal in hidden valley. If you go in and kill everyone there is 34 or so BOS plus the recently dead patrols of 5 or 6 total and the scouts which are 3 plus Veronica you have a little over 40 members left from the battle. With Christine and Elijah considered dead i guess there to be around 90-100 members at the time of the battle. So anywhere from around 1300-2000 NCR members were present to take Helios one

​@matthewrankin5588 I knew about the 15-20 to 1 figure, but never did the math on it. 1300-2000 is insane! Really makes me wonder why NCR thought that power plant was so important, yet decides to only leave around 20-30 troopers to guard it.

@@ALLMINDmercenarysupportsystem if you go kill all the guards in there and at the el dorado sub station there are only 15! Of course the game probably can’t handle how many they would probably actually have.

Combined with it being behind the front lines and near a major settlement and a ranger station. Most threats would be from raiders at most in the brass's mind and help would not be too far away.

The NCR had more men then the BOS had bullets the NCR essentially sent in conscripts like meat shields and sent the rangers as per usual the BOS had killed a hefty amount of NCR Troops by the end

HELIOS ONE defends only troopers and robots, but when NCR take this they used NCR Rangers and NCR Veterans. That's all

They were out numbered severely and they were practically besieged. Despite their tech, they're still being shot at in all directions.

Also bringing logistics into this. The Brotherhood were in a perfect position to get starved out and those Microfusion and Energy cells would have run out eventually.

@SickOne2 they used a lot of troopers and some rangers as fire support probably, lets say the mojave chapter by the time of NV has 500 people in its chapter lets double it and make it. 1.000 they surely lost at least half of its chapter, with games references saying the ncr had outnumbeted them 20 to 1 so 20x1.000 = 20k, a entire army to take down a expeditionary force, Brothehood had NO chance to defend that building, the outside is also surrounded by high points and moutains. So yeah the only chance BoS had there was if they had archimedes ready but even Elijah couldnt put everything together in time. Also power armor doesnt mean shit when your enemy is sniping you with a .50 or .45-70 Rangers by distance could snipe and easily take down any power armored units at distance.

Well there's other factors too, like logistics and industry which I think the NCR has the BOS beat on.

Which drives the point of why the Western BOS is at a dead end if they don't change some of their ways, the wasteland is full of many and the BOS has only so few. Worked out pretty well for the Lyon's BOS, before the Enclave arrives, the only thing that rivals the DC BOS are the super mutants.

@@uramoon4618 How exactly did it work out well for Lyons' Brotherhood? At the time of Fallout 3 they are a shell of their former expedition strength. They are hunkered down in a crumbling fortress, barely capable of projecting influence beyond their walls. Their change in doctrine resulted in an ideological schism, forming the Outcasts and further depleting the strength of the Citadel force. By the END of Fallout 3, they are stretched even more thinly, wasting resources and manpower on guarding water caravans after the casualties of the Enclave war. A noble cause, but terribly executed. It was only after the reforms of Arthur Maxson that the East Coast Brotherhood of Steel became a nation in its own right. Lyons was a fool.

@@MrGrim-ck7qj Maybe so but with Lyons' BOS recruiting it does mean they could at best get volunteers to join the cause like with some they already have, or at worse forcibly conscript Wasteland inhabitants into the cause. Which would mean they can in theory sustain their numbers and grow. Along all of that, they have Galaxy News to more or less be their propaganda outlet. The outcasts themselves weren't any better off once they chose to leave, they huddled in a military fort with raiders to the East and two cannibal families to the south, and what do they do when the player encounters them? They try to recruit them to be their carrier boy, but not let them be a member, I would argue they're barely in an better position than the Mojave BOS since nobody aside from maybe the Fairfax raiders are actively trying to exterminate them.
