The wind flattened my corn a few years back. Not once but three times. Each time I went out and mudded the stocks back up again , thinking it was going to die . I harvested 3 to 4 GOOD ears each. What a year!!😊

Just put some tee post up with twine every other row to hold them in place. Texasprepper2 has good video on bracing your corn, heres the link. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLVyqtScq7rDYp8.html

Just curious if you’ve ever tried to take a small patch of land to experiment with I would try out making changes to soil and distance to other plants to see how it affects the final yield - it’s called “experimental science” 😘

I planted painted mountain corn in the foothills of SC and while it isnt a sweet hybrid, I have a few stalks that have 3 and one that has 4 cobs! Most have 1 or 2 but it's still interesting.

They look really great. Please what do you fertilise with? How many applications?
@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm Жыл бұрын
We usually start with a balanced fertilizer and then feed them a straight nitrogen fertilizer (13-0-0) a couple times as they're growing. Hard to give them too much nitrogen.

What is the ear? Is it the green leaf covering the corn?

Last time I planted we only got one per plant, and it wasn't that tall. It was just bad placement. Hidden from gusty winds, but it was too shady.

Would it be best to prune the dwarf ear to send all that plant energy to the good ear or would that kill the plant
@LazyDogFarm
@LazyDogFarm Жыл бұрын
I don't know that it would make much of a difference. The top ear seems to get maximum size regardless of the development of the "runt" ear.

How is corn so cheap, if it produces such low yields?

Because they grow massive fields of it.

Supply supply supply. Per Google - “The United States is the largest producer, consumer, and exporter of corn in the world. On average, U.S. farmers plant about 90 million acres of corn each year, with the majority of the crop grown in the Heartland region.”
