I agree with getting a better guitar at the beginning is a good tip. Also ask the beginner if they want an electric or acoustic. I wanted to play electric, but my parents got me an acoustic. Hated it and didn’t play guitar until a few years later when I got an electric.

The equation to answer this question is simple. Count hour many you have now and add 1 more. 😂 Seriously, as a guy who records at home, all I truly need is 1 electric guitar, 1 bass guitar, and 1 acoustic guitar. I currently have 3 electrics, 1 acoustic and 2 bass. I did play semi pro before covid and just never got back to it again and lost interest in gigging. Going forward, I might add a strat or Tele style guitar just for the sake of having a few different sounds in my guitar tracks, but its a want, not a need.

Yes, you really "need" just 1 or 2 guitars if you're an amateur hobbyist. But like me I'm a hobbyist but also a collector, so I got 16 guitars. I "want" to experience what it feels to play this and that guitar so I acquired 1 (1 for each type of Brand and 1 for each Major tuning).🤭 - 1 Fender Stratocaster (Standard Tuning) - 1 Telecaster - 1 Yngwie "scalloped" Stratocaster (Eb Tuning) - 1 Gibson Les Paul Standard Sunrise burst (Standard) - 1 Gibson 1959 Vintage Burst (Drop D) - 1 Ibanez RG (shredding) - 1 ESP - 1 Suhr Modern Pro - 1 Jackson - Bass - and many others that I forgot the names. So there' you only need One...... One Guitar for each brand and type.😄💯✌

@@atonofspiders Haha, you don't look like a rockstar with that, so I did not decide to own one.😂If Yngwie, Vai, Paul or Tim Henson will use one, maybe I will buy 😄

Great video man. From a bassist point of view I feel that 2-3 solid/versatile basses are more than enough. I own a Schecter Studio 4 and Studio 5. Incredible instruments and very versatile. Only thing I may consider getting is a another Studio-5 that’s fretless tuned E-C. Purely because A: a fretless can open a whole different way of playing and B: I’ve tried 6 string basses and not really a fan but a 5 tuned E-C, that’s just fine with me.

Rob Chapman said whoever has the most guitars before they die wins lol but i 100% agree with getting a better guitar for starting out. Ive been at it for 30 something years and yes cheaper guitars are way better now but yeah if the guitar sucks and is hard to play its just going to discourage them. And i don't want that

💯. I always advise new players to get a better guitar when starting!

Im just a normal dude whos been playing for 20 years -i dont earn my living playing/creating music. I have 5 guitars and I really really enjoy playing 3 of them, the other 2 are tone wild cards. Although I find myself browsing on Reverb, I know I don’t need it and I will NOT get it

Those are rookie numbers, you're gonna have to raise those numbers! LOL How many do you NEED? 3 to 4. An acoustic, an electric, probably a bass, and maybe a second electric (one with single coils and tremolo and one with humbuckers and hardtail). How many do you WANT? Simple...all of them. Follow me for more tips. 🤓😅🤣
