Hello. Just subscribed. I started the sword journey at about 19, I'm going on 69. I each time I pick up a blade I will have a "John Snow moment ", " I know nothing"

Awesome video folks. We will never get to the end of it as long as we live. As a musician for almost 40 years, and a HEMA practitioner for 20, I can confirm they are the same in that aspect.n

Exact same concept in Budo! As I tell my students, we are all essentially 'students' - the difference between me & you is simply that I have a lot more experience in training in addition to instructing; there is always the opportunity for you to teach me something (although you may not even know you are doing it).

Absolutely right. The only thing I might disagree with is that for some of us, though we're willing and want to change, for some new skills we also learn slowly. I'm slow to learn physical movements. Once I learn them correctly, they stay with me...but I'm slow. Fine motor movements, when I was a kid, were easy--piano, accordion, brrrrt-fast. Dancing class...SLOW learner. So...not real disagreement. 100% in favor of lifelong learning. Makes old age a lot more fun. What you lose in one wreck isn't the only thing you enjoy and know how to do.

Triggered by the Great Pizza Heresy again. I'll put that aside for now! This is 1000% true. I like to tell beginning saber swingers that saber is much like Chess. You can learn the basics in fifteen minutes, but then that pool gets DEEP. Setting aside your ego is pretty vital to diving in and discovering all the really cool stuff! I definitely agreed out loud with y'all when you said two years. I've been fencing saber for a little over that, and I feel like there are -some- things I actually do with some sort of proficiency. To echo the comment below, I think we could use that a little more in our art, take everything as a learning opportunity! Fantastic video, and solid gold advice. :D
