If you ever have picked up a .50 cal can full of ammo. Then you know how heavy it is. You get 10 or so of those stacked up and it's cumbersome. Awful heavy to deal with. I have 10 of them. The last 1 cans I have purchased are .30 cal cans. Yeah, it holds less, but so much easier to deal with. Both are great ways to preserve ammo and other things. Thanks for your video.

30cal is approx half of this. Feels more practical to use those, you can just quickly load few boxes to car for a shooting trip/course. A full 50cal box means hauling, not carrying.

What's that 50 cal can of 22lr weigh? Just curious. I know I cannot get 6000 rounds in a 50 cal ammo can because I am packing my 22lr in cleaned and dried 20 oz. Gatorade bottles, working on filling those bottles now. Being 70 years old I am not interested in carrying a heavy a$$ can around, to the range etc, but I can readily get a day's supply in one bottle. Once I get several filled and put in a can, I will weigh it. But hoping you can give me the answer on a 6000 round filled can. Thanks!
@thastinger345
@thastinger345 3 жыл бұрын
A full 50 cal can of loose rounds, of any type, is going to weigh between 60-70Lbs. 1300 230gr 45ACP or 2500 9mm 124gr or 700 150gr 308 Win loose rounds are gonna weigh about the same.
@michalbarsfajny4268
@michalbarsfajny4268 2 жыл бұрын
@@thastinger345 No. I have full cans with 223, 9x19 and 7.62x39. 9x19 is heaviest - 27.1 kg. Next is 7.62x37 - 18.8kg. And last is .223 - 16.6kg. Imagine that you have full box of .30-06 ammo with 100gr bullets and second box with 220gr bullets. If you put 500 rounds into box, weight difference will be 3.9 kg. Also, 9x19 and .223 round weights almost the same. But I can fit 1200 rounds of .223 into can, but over 2000 of 9x19 will fit into can. And again, you can have super light plastic bullets or 115gr bullets or heavy subsonic bullets. That will add up

Great video! Thanks for making it. Now my only question is how much do the cans weigh? I've contemplated doing this with 9mm but even keeping them in their boxes where way less fits in the can it's pretty dang heavy.
@landrun89
@landrun89 7 жыл бұрын
They are heavy, 9mm and .22 are the heaviest. Rifle rounds are manageable. I keep 2 cans with a mix of all my calibers that I take shooting. The full cans never get touched saving them for a rainy day. I just top off my using ammo every week, while adding to my stockpile ammo, doesnt take long to fill up a can I buy three or four boxes a week. I reload a ton as well!

landrun89 Gotcha, so pretty much once it's full it sits somewhere and isn't gone in much? Do you have any weights in lbs on them? Thanks for the response!
@landrun89
@landrun89 7 жыл бұрын
Ray Serrato I got about 62 pounds on the 9mm. I just weighed one round then multiplied it by 2350rounds came out to 970 ounces roughly 60 pounds plus the weight of the can.

Thank for the informative video. Though it is good to save space by having the ammo loose in the can i would think that it could also possibly damage the rounds. Please give any feedback if anyone has had any issues because of that.
@Justonn
@Justonn 2 жыл бұрын
Nah it wont. In the military it’s literally stored just like this. They have found ammo cans from the 50s and 60s and all the rounds still function today. If they re locked and sealed those rounds are safe. Long as water doesn’t get in it’ll be fine and this coming from a navy vet. Only thing sucks is if a fire breaks out in the house 😂. Those rounds could heat up and go everywhere

Might try putting a desiccant bag both at the bottom and the top. For reasons (water is heavier than air).
@ImNoBSING
@ImNoBSING Жыл бұрын
Water vapor is lighter than air, for reasons like clouds
@silvermediastudio
@silvermediastudio Жыл бұрын
@@ImNoBSING Yep, and only having the desiccant at the top requires water vapor at the bottom to migrate through the entirety of the contents before it is absorbed. Water vapor also has a tendency to condense on cooler surfaces (like brass, because metals conduct heat better than air).
@ImNoBSING
@ImNoBSING Жыл бұрын
I am sorry, what water vapor? The idea of desiccants is to draw any excess moisture from the rounds and once it is in equilibrium, only vast temperature differences would harm the ammo. I have 2 points: 1. You cannot put the desiccant in each round, where the fast temperature swing creates the real damage. 2. There is limited water inside unless you fail to close it properly. As long as the desiccant is not fully saturated, it will continue to draw and push moisture (keep humidity at the same level) when temperature changes slightly.

Ok... but can you move them if you need to. What if the only can you can get to is all 9mm and you have a 308 rifle and thats it? Or you have all your guns, but only one ammo can could be picked up. Mix your ammo so no matter what can you pick up you know you hace rounds for the gun you have.
@landrun89
@landrun89 6 жыл бұрын
I do keep 5 cans of mixed ammo that I have just for that reason, one in each vehicle and 3 at home, each has over 1200 rounds of everything mixed. This ammo is stuff I don't plan on shooting unless shit gets real. I have enough mixed ammo to give me a fighting chance to get back to these, or another stash I have at another location. I live 15 miles from the nearest small town, And 2 hours from any metropolis. I am pretty sure shtf won't start at my doorstep but you never know? The only ones I have trouble moving is the 9mm and .22LR they are heavy I do need to split them up. I also keep 1,000 rounds loaded in AR mags with 5 ARs at the ready. I also keep 5 loaded mags and an AR in the truck plus my carry pistol and mags at all times. The wife won't let me keep an AR in her vehicle unless we are going out of town!
