How Many Times Can Billi Ask For Food In 15 Minutes? | BilliSpeaks

The title probably gives it away, but this interaction took plave over about 15 minutes, it’s been sped up for your viewing pleasure.
Billi is on a twice a day medication (see How To Get Your Cat To Take Her Medicine for background) which needs to be given as close to 12 hours apart as possible for maximum effectiveness. Now, I know what some of you are going to say: a few minutes sooner can’t make that much of a difference!? In reality probably not, but if we move the time forward a few minutes one day, then the next day, then the next day, eventually it will make a difference. So we’re sticking to the schedule, much to Billi’s chagrin 😹

you need to give her an association clock....like a color disk she can see getting to food color or a disk that gets eclipsed. If the disk is completely eclipsed, it is food time. ;-)

I really find it funny how she presses food a few times, and then when no one gives her any food she goes HELP! They are not feeding me! And when still no food, then she goes MAD! But she really is persistent and she does now that food is about that time. Cool stuff! :)

This is my cat. This is my cat in a nutshell. My cat is the same age as Billi and CLEARLY understands language, and she has been known to harass me for up to two hours for food. When I start her on FluentPet later this year I can so imagine us having an exchange like this once she gets the hang of it. Right now she just screams at me and expects me to understand what she’s getting at. 😂

Have you ever thought about using a Visual Timer with Billi to let her “see” how long she has to wait? I used them with my special needs students. You can find them in most adaptive equipment catalogs. Imagine a clock on a stand that you can move where you need it; but instead of a clock face, there is a red section and a white section. The timer can be set for various amounts of time, as needed. I know she can’t see colors, but the red should show up as black. As the time counts down, the red section slowly disappears. When the time is up, the circle is all white and you can set it so a bell dings too. I really believe she would understand, and watching the timer would give her something to do besides holler for food. Anyway, it’s a thought.

The worst part about this is that Billi is so polite for a cat, so this isn't even bad 😂 i ignore my cat in the morning (when she wants wet food) until my alarm goes off- even though there's dry food down for her, she *must* have wet food, and will chew any wire, knock over any trash can or fan or lamp, and bite any exposed skin until she gets it!

We have a cat named Buttons who cannot use buttons but expresses herself _very_ clearly nevertheless. She follows the following sequence: 1. "ATTENTION! The time of food approaches! Oh boy oh boy I am so excited for food oh man" 2. "Now? Is it now? What about now? I did tell you. It must be now. Aha! You moved slightly! It IS now, I knew it! Hey, why aren't you getting up? Soon, you say? Okay, real soon. Reeeeeaaaaallll soon." C (or 3). "I don't understand? I told you it is food time? Don't you understand that I am hungry? Don't you love me at all? I thought we shared a bond of trust and mutual respect." IV (or 4, or D). "I am dying... wasting away... starvation has made me weak and pitiful... death could come at any moment..." Time to die (or 5, or E, or V). "I'm going to start knocking things off high places and bapbapbapping you until you feed me. Because if the previous stage didn't work, you're clearly a sociopath who understands nothing but violence."

set the alarm on you phone...i was petsitting a cat and greyhound and used that alarm and it worked they were waiting for the alarm...i used the alarm that says things like "time to feed emma" "time to feed bert"
