A tip that I got off one of Marc Brunet's videos on shading that really helped me is imagining yourself as the light source, then imagine yourself as the light source looking at your subject/character. Everywhere you can't see is where shadows will be. If you're drawing a character, I'm gonna assume you have a good idea on how they'd look in a 3D space, knowing that helps with this technique.

Entry #3, while it works having the hair glow I think the intention was more to be like in the land of the lustrous anime, which would be light being cast through the hair. Since it is a gemstone it would reflect the light but that is different than being the light source itself which is why the fixed version might not be what they were trying to achieve. You'd have to treat the hair as a glass and look up references for how light bounces around and reflects from glass

For the second submission, that character is actually from an anime called "Land of the Lustrious" where a signature of the art style is those highlights on the hair. Although I agree that the artist should do something to compensate the character for their own art style, sine the highlights don't look like they make much sense in their art style.

hi my anme is C4IS and i recently started drawing, this year.I've ment people at school who could help start at beginner. But seeing how bad (and i mean bad) i am at drawing some left me in the dark, i lost hope and thought i could never draw.But YOU showed me that even people who suck at drawing(like me) can become pro's(like you) by learning and never giving up(now i sound like naruto) even when i straggle or when a fill like quitting, watching your video's show me that with knowlegde + practise = good art work (not a english native speaker some words could be spelled rong) thank you for your videos please make more.

I love that you don't prescribe a 1 size fits all way to fix any given piece per se, but instead you go over multiple ways a particular element could have been handled and try to take the artist's style and intentions into mind while giving your advice. Top tier critique!
