The physics stuff has got to be my favorite content, which I would LOVE to see more of, but I would also REALLY like to see some more hard science stuff explained with simplicity and the great visual graphics that PBS does so well. Specifically I mean: genetics, computer related things (comp-sci basics, programming, other related topics of interest), tech stuff, engineering, electronics, materials science, robotics, ANYTHING LIKE IT!!! Love it all so far. Keep up the great content and when all else seems unclear... DIVERSIFY (but science though -- **mostly**).

Fear + hope = action. Whenever you tell people about the environmental challenges we are facing, will you also highlight the incredible work done by the helpers? People like this guy: video.nationalgeographic.com/video/short-film-showcase/india-man-plants-forest-bigger-than-central-park-to-save-his-island There's always someone working to fight every bad thing and we need to know who they are and what they are doing. If you trigger fear and don't show people there is hope, you only create disillusionment and depression and very little will change, but if we hear about the helpers, we might become them. The hope is SO important. We need more hope.

I'm lichen this video a lot. You woodn't believe it but trees are also highly beneficial for human and environmental health: filtering out pollution, providing flood water detention, increasing soil stability (less landslides and soil erosion!), providing shade and habitat, and reducing local temperatures. In fact, during times of drought, keeping vegetation alive in cities was found to be one of the most beneficial ways of reducing heat-related mortality :) Plus, from the psychological side they help increase perceptions of health and local neighborhoods - resulting in better rates of recovery and crime reduction respectively! Just thought I'd branch out a bit there, I hope that's vine with you all.

3 trillion trees? I think we still need more. Yes, trees emit water vapor that helps to replenish the water cycle, but also just as impotant the water vapor content of the air helps to stabilize the air temperature and helps to ward off ground dessication.

Love the show. Thank you so much for all the great videos! Would you consider doing a video on how deforestation has more to do with slash-burning for farmland than it has to do with paper manufacture? According to the USDA Forest Service, 4 million trees are planted every day in the United States, but a substantial fraction of this comes from sustainable forestry within the paper industry: 1.7 million trees daily. I work in biofuels (specifically from sawdust) and I routinely get questions about how the technology I work on will contribute to deforestation. If people understood how paper worked, it would go a long way towards understanding biofuels too. Thanks again for the great work you do!

Will you do a episode about the idea of making buildings that function like giant trees? I think that's probably the most practical way to deal with emissions and the loss of forest cover. I think we should focus on green energy and even more on taking out what's already in the air and what will be put in the air before the long transition to green energy.

I don't know how many people do know this but Finland is country where about 85% of it's land it's covered by forests. And we have a law wich states that every area where the fully grown trees are cut land's owner has to plant new ones so there is ALWAYS trees and actually even though we cut laaaaarge amounts of trees every single day there is more trees growing then we are able to cut. So thus it's win win situation for both people and nature. I'm my self studing to become an harvester operator driver (it's a big tracktor like machine that cut trees). If every country in the world would do the same they could get much wood as they want and the nature wouldn't be harmed at all. Hope somebody would like this so many people can see thid and see this knowledge.

Isn't Sentinel tracking exactly this type of tree-mendous survey? Hi-res scanning of water content in soil and plant life around the planet. Too lazy to check, I think it also maps CO2, methane, CfC's, nitrogen content in soil and mullets. Or pirates. ESA can explain it better. Sidebar: my first job at 14 years old was planting trees for the city of Berkeley, CA. Still my favorite.

We could count the trees. It would require a lot of effort, but it is possible, just like we beat smallpox or conduct a census. It would be a global effort and require co-ordination but it could be done. But we won't as it isn't very important to know exactly how many trees there are. Forrested area is more important and can be determined by satellite.
