This is why after i’d graduated from college and after my dad died I went to auto mechanics school and befriended local mechanics so this wouldn’t happen to me. I know how to everything from an oil change to dropping an engine into a car. I’m older now and don’t work on my car as often but i had to take it to a shop for repair and he told me i needed a tie rod, I asked inner or outer? He looked at me so funny snd said “oh you know the difference?’ yeah not only do I know the difference I know i don’t need either

This is why I begged my dad, a mechanic, to teach me at least the basic about cars. He just says, "Oh if you have an issue just bring it to me and in an emergency I got you a Triple A card don't worry." C'mon dad, I need to know this stuff because you're not gonna be around forever. You can't just talk cars with my brother and not my sister and I.

Protip: if a mechanic can't get oil changed same day he's not a good mechanic. That shit is easy and passive.

I'm so glad that my wife has never had to deal with this shit lol. Her dad did all the work on her car until she moved in with me. I don't know anything about fixing cars, but I do know prices because my dad is a mechanic. I found her a local shop and everytime she brings her car in there they explain everything they've done to the car and why, what she needs to get done next time, and the price is always fair. Trustworthy mechanics exist, they can just sometimes be tricky to find!

im so glad my uncles a mechanic and taught me how to work on my own car, he used to fix TANKS in the military, so i know exactly how much something is to fix, the labor behind it, and how much to charge for it i once saved my mom who brought her car to a mechanic cause it would sputter before it started, he tried to tell her she needed a new starter motor cause it wore out... she had JUST bought the car the year before and the model was only 4 damn years old with 40k miles on it... i told her aint no damn way you need a new starter... i went to her house, popped the hood... the terminals on the battery had corrosion on them... i cleaned it off and the car worked perfectly fine lmao they were going to charge her $850 for no god damn reason... im waiting for the day a mechanic tries to get over on this lil lady thinking i dont know shit about cars lol

I go to the same mechanic every time, and he always SHOWS and TELLS me what the issue is and how to fix it, etc. AND how much it should cost to fix. Now, I pretty much know most of what I need to know about my car, and cars in general because of him. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Learn about your car: Please! lol smh😪

I had this happen to me, took my 2016 Hyundai to get a oil change at one of these quick oil change places. My car had 25,000 miles on it an the mechanic told me $80 cuz it had high miles🤣😂🤣😂 I walked out laughing I ain’t falling for that!!!! Thank goodness I was taught a thing or two about cars.
