In honor of Metroid Prime 4 coming out I am completing every Metroid game on NSO plus Metroid Dread.

Nintendo is going to market the hell out of Prime 4 and it’s going to assuredly be cross gen to maximize sales. A really good online multiplayer will give the game legs, to go with what will no doubt be an outstanding single player experience. This game could potentially blow past 5mil in sales and reach that next tier, possibly in the 10mil range.

if Prime 4 can't outsell Dread or barley outsells it I doubt Nintendo will be too happy about that given how long it's taken to get this game ready

Just don’t release a Mario, Pokemon or Zelda game near it, and I think the game will perform well. Dread struggled because Nintendo released a new Mario party and Pokemon a couple of weeks after. It also doesn’t help that most Nintendo fans aren’t interested in franchises outside the big 4, Nintendo needs to figure out how to branch the Metroid series to an audience that’s used to buying yearly Pokemon and Mario games.

It needs a competent multiplayer component if they want it to grow significantly.

I look at the Metroid track record and i have 0 doubts Prime 4 will deliver. They always do.

I think Prime 4 Beyond in my honest opinion could be the best selling Metroid game ever! I’m pretty excited to get into the Metroid series!

The biggest problem is the 2025 release window. There are many high-profile games coming in 2025, including Nintendo's own 3D Mario. If Prime 4 doesn't sell well, blame Nintendo for putting it in a bad year.

Hers an idea. What if Beyond indicates a Groundhog Day / edge of tomorrow scenario, and we repay the game several times. Lore getting added each replay upgrades getting added each replay.

If prime 4 fails, this franchise will never get a triple A mainline release ever again. As you said they spent MILLIONS on this

I don't think multiplayer is happening, and I don't think it needs to. I think that will be a separate project, whether it's Hunters 2 or something else. I think Prime 4 has the potential to sell 5+ million if it's crossgen and Nintendo markets it properly, and I think that'd be seen as a huge success (that would almost double the best selling game in the series).

What could possibly make Metroid successful? Metroidvanias are niche, and there are many FPS online multiplayer games so having that mode would only help so much when the market is saturated.

Hopefully this the game that funnels the time line with the time travel being there's time travel in the game

maybe the reason for no cloud saves on switch might be to do with the switch successor. they could be doing something there.

Still dissapointed that Prime Remastered never gave us the Fusion Suit. Also, Depending on how many Suit Upgrades Prime 4 has then I hope they add Suit Cosmetic options from Fusion and Dread. That would require something like the Phazon Suit from Prime 1, Basically a 3rd Suit Upgrade to exist.

Friendly reminder Tokyo Mirage Sessions does have cloud save support. Upsetting how Nintendo still hasn't corrected this. Also if Prime 4 has a multiplayer that is at least as fun as Hunters multiplayer then Prime 4 will be just fine especially if the singleplayer is just as high quality as the previous Metroid games.

I'm starting to think the Switch 2 will launch around May or June with both Metroid Prime 4 and Mario Kart... Metroid Prime 4 would benefit heavily from launching with a new Nintendo system as you point out in this video but it alone probably won't be a big enough system seller. 3D Mario would make a great system seller if it were on it's own but I worry it would slightly cannibalize Prime 4 or at least make the launch lineup feel less varied as they're both single player focused action adventure games, Mario Kart on the other hand being a multiplayer focused racing game would compliment Prime 4 much better in terms of launch game veriety and the long wait since MK8 will push people to pick up the Switch 2 ASAP (especially if it launches near the start of summer as I'm predicting) which in turn will push those Switch 2 owners to pick up Prime 4 as well as they'll want something else to play. This would then allow them to hold 3D Mario for the holiday season like they did with Odyssey in 2017 which is also when we'll likely get the first trailer for Mario Movie 2 which would be ripe for cross promotion with how both projects are likely to feature Yoshi in a large role. Throw in Pokemon Legends ZA, Monolith Soft's next game and maybe a new Animal Crossing as well and I think we're in for an exciting 2025 as Nintendo fans

Pokémon and Animal Crossing prevent cloud saving to avoid cloning thanks to local multiplayer. At least for Pokémon doesn't really affect the game, especially not competitive game, it just hurts The Pokémon Company desire to see each pokémon as unique. Which I agree with, but it only hurts competitive gameplay (which still 100% relies on PKHex, just that lately most don't know how to make one). Animal Crossing also have unlockables, and the whole purpose of Mr. Resetti since the beginning is to "teach" you about living your Animal Crossing life as a real one, with consequences. So have a backup to restore your state would be cheating. It's also worth mentioning that you now can backup, but you still can't restore it on another console without the original one to delete it from. In practice, you can only transfer the save. The same applies with pokémon (except you can't backup it at all, only transfer the pokémons to Pokémon Home which is cloud based and doesn't save anything local). For Animal Crossing is also a matter of the sheer size of the save, which I can't find right now but it's bigger than usual games. I really can't imagine Metroid Prime having a mechanic that would require that type of anti-cheat.

I hope it sells well, Nintendo has moved away from AAA games enough already. If Prime 4 doesn't sell well, the only AAA games left Nintendo will develop will be Mario & Zelda. Ultimately they're a business, and if cheaper, AA games, remasters & enhanced ports make more money, they'll just continue in that direction.

I agree with the 3rd party and Microsoft crowd being interested in Metroid, all the more reason for the game to have a great Multiplayer alongside the great single player we know we’re getting

i have bought some games multiple times, for different consoles. that's not an option with metroid, since it's just on one console

We have to understand that the game industry today is way different than what it was 20 years ago. I don't think the fact Prime 4 is coming out at the end of the Switch lifespan, probably after Nintendo makes the jump to the next generation is gonna hurt too much it's sales potential. Nowadays most consoles are backwards compatible and there's still games being released on Xbox one and PS5.

I think online multiplayer would help, but I worry the control scheme of Metroid doesn’t lend itself well to the CoD/Halo model of FPS online multiplayer

Well, the history doesnt support the idea that it has to sell a lot. For 40 years Metroid has sold bad comparing to the other series but they come back to Metroid anyway. I think they do that partly because it is so different from everything else they make, partly because they know Metroid fans love it so much. It obviously isnt because of sales numbers.

The sad reality is that, for whatever reason, games in this genre, 2D or 3D, don’t sell like other genres do. In fact, Dread is not only the best selling Metroid game ever, it’s the best selling “metroidvania” game, period. We don’t know digital sales, I’m sure it’s well over 3M total, since that’s only physical copies, but it beats every other title like Ori, Hollow Knight, SotN and others, by a wide margin. I hope Prime 4 blows this genre’s doors wide open and attract new players. It’s a travesty Metroid can’t sell as well as every other main Nintendo franchise.

I believe if they market Prime 4 by say, showing Prime, then Prime 2, then Prime 3 and then, the BIG Prime 4 show on their KZfaq account, it would not only show all the Primes so new players get to know the series, but also build up to Prime 4. Maybe start a small section of Prime, a little bigger for 2 then 3 then the big finally, PRIME 4. Also, making Prime 3 playable on conventual controllers would really help. I remember allot of people really unhappy about motion control only

As much as I hope prime 4 could sell a boatload I don’t think it would. Metroid as a genre has too much puzzle and thinking involved to appeal to general audience, or shooter bros. I don’t expect the expansion of audience for Prime games beyond its current niche.

Look man, I doubt Metroid Prime 4 will sell any worse than 3 mil. It seems to have Nintendo's whole backing into it and is on Nintendo's best-selling system. At worst it sells the same as dread or so and at best it sells double that. "Be looking at least the Metroid Prime games be going away for a very long time or possibly forever." So business as usual. Jokes aside, I don't think is the same hole Star Fox or F-Zero are in where many of the games didn't sell well along with having no studio to work on them at all. I believe we will still have Metroid Prime games in the future, they will simply be on hiatus while Retro focuses on making new DK or something.

Yes wait until Nintendo blows the lid on Prime 4 and we get a full blown Switch 2 trailer of Samus spider balling all over the place in new environments, grapple beaming and using new visor abilities vs enemies and puzzles.... boss battles.... chozo... the return of Ridley... and maybe even the Gunship comes into play more... we've seen NOTHING! Point 1 % of the game...

I think another thing is that if Prime 4 does have a fleshed out multiplayer, then it could really capitalize on a market with really no other competitors on any other platform. Halo is not doing very good at all with pretty much most support for Infinite being cut from the devs, and we are probably not getting another mainline Halo game for another few years at the earliest. There are really no other sci fi first person multiplayer shooters out there currently and Metroid will probably throw its own spin on it making it even more enticing for people even on other platforms.

It's not Gona make 2 mil profit, but it's going to be profitable. 1.5 mill maybe, but that's fine MP5 & 6 will make more. It will grow...

Unpopular opinion: The 2D Metroid games are superior

i more than anybody else hope the game turns out good but i don't like what i've seen. let's just pray they at least really do have a multiplayer mode. metroid prime is not for everybody but i hope more people give it a try. 13:28 a lot of talent? many of the devs are already acting smug online. and their resumes aren't very impressive.

They need to make the graphics not suck. From what I saw in the preview, they should have made a vacuum cleaner instead, because they effectively suck.
