Watch "Generation Kill" for a good version of this. The Gunnery Sergreant of the group is a constant asshole, going around criticizing the troops for letting the 'grooming standard' go lax, meaning they have a shirt untucked while they work on a truck in the heat, or he'll tell someone they haven't shaved enough. The idea is to give them a legitimate thing to focus their anger at, since at least that will keep them a cohesive fighting force. Everyone can bond by bitching about how the boss is riding them hard.

They were never meant to be good. Not after the first one, anyway. The first movie gets a pass. This is Michael Bay we’re talking about here. By the time he made transformers he already had an established style as a director. You knew what you were getting with a Michael Bay movie. Nothing was ever going to be narratively deep. You were going to get great stylized cinematography, beautiful actors & a great spectacle with some typical Hollywood story tropes suitable for a general audience that has hit puberty. And I don’t think you can honestly say we didn’t get that from transformers. But as the franchise went on it was only going to go downhill from there. And it did lol. Doesn’t change the fact that a hell of a lot of hard work went into making those movies.

Charly it was a comedy festival called Cannabash and it was in February 2015 I believe. It was his birthday that day too. It was funny because there were maybe 4-5 other comics that came on before him, and since he was the host he’d introduce all the comics before they came on. You could see him getting progressively more fucked up as the night went on as he introduced the comics. By the time it was his set, it was like 10pm and he was completely smashed lol. His whole routine made no sense, he was speaking gibberish.
