Hi Ken. Firstly congratulations to Pam and her husband. I must say that the first video with her was on my list of videos to rewatch but this one is better! So inspiring. And I love how she breaks down what she did to reach her goal. I'm only halfway through but I think the thing that's missing (or I missed) was how she went from being a part-time worker with an out of work husband to having a business and I guess her husband got a job somewhere. It would've been interesting to learn when this change in circumstance happened and how it affected the amounts she put away. Or if she just squirreled everything into one pot. Always love the work you and Mary do. It maybe time for me to join FJA in 2021. Anyway, I'll get back to the video. Have a great New Years Eve.

Hi Kayleigh Wonderful feedback. Exactly what we need as creators as it's often not so obviously to us that we've missed out on a key piece to the story. The thing to note is that it's very difficult to include everything in one video. People aren't very patient and this video is long enough 😅. So perhaps one for another video and make it a trilogy? 🤔. What title would you suggest for such a video? Wishing you a successful 2021! Hope to get to know you more personally via FJA 😊

@@TheHumblePenny I'm pleased that this comment was helpful. I appreciate that this video was long, but I really enjoyed watching you and your sister's sibling dynamics so I didn't feel the episode was too long at all. But I may be part of the small minority I appreciate. A third part would be great. A title? Hmmm..."Journey from part-time actress to mortgage free"?, "A Millennial family's journey to mortgage freedom"?

Congratulations! Amazing content as always, Ken! We made the decision to clear our debts (x3 smallish loans/store cards) 6ish months ago so now money that used to go towards them is ours to keep. Hi Pam and Ken. Really great content as usual. And congratulations Pam for this big achievement 🎉 I am working on being mortgage free within 5 years at the latest. There is a lot to take from this video and I had to rewind it many times, mainly because English is not my first language so I wanted to make sure I understand everything properly 😉. I would say the one thing that resonates the most with me is that, in business, the difference between you and others offering the same product/service is your personnality. It's your competitive advantage : authenticity and listening create trust creates sells. Combined with the right tools, emotional intelligence is powerful.

Nice video Ken congrats to your sister. Takeaway was do you need formal education or is informal education best to push you to the next level. Knowing what you do today would you still have done your MBA. Or advise somebody seeking financial freedom to do an MBA? Cheers Happy New Year to you and your family.
@TheHumblePenny
@TheHumblePenny 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam, thanks for watching :). I would say that you need informal education more than you need formal education. When I think of the skills that are helping me the most today, they are skills that I have learned from others directly (through coaching, masterminds, etc) or through the experience of having a go myself and making mistakes or through building strategic relationships with people who are doing what I wanted to do. Knowing my sister, it is the same for her too. My MBA helped me with a different type of life skill - Confidence, building networks, growing in my understanding, etc. All necessary skills for achieving financial freedom quicker (depending on what route you take). Knowing what I know now, would I still have done the MBA, YES! It's a different type of learning. In conclusion, you need ongoing education (formal or informal), with a focus on making learning and taking action a serious part of your lifestyle. All these moves improve your Skillset, Toolset and Mindset (3 key ingredients for achieving financial freedom). Make sense? 😀

Great video as always!! Quick question, what are your thoughts on over paying your mortgage if you know you want to move into a bigger house in the future?? Is it better to start overpaying on your final home if that makes sense?
@TheHumblePenny
@TheHumblePenny 3 жыл бұрын
We get you :). Definitely overpay to some extent especially if you're paying a sizeable interest. If you intend to move eventually, there is no harm in having equity in your existing home. But don't put all your extra savings into overpayments only.

I am a little confused, I understand she's pitching a business however she didn't explain how she went about being mortgage free... early repayment fees etc and how she made payments isn't that the idea behind such titles?
@TheHumblePenny
@TheHumblePenny 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ade Thanks for watching :). The key thing we focused on was what to do to actually make the money to overpay (which is what she did). The focus isn't on merely overpaying as anyone can do that as we've shared on multiple videos. What many aren't sure how to do is how to make a decent amount of money in a tried and tested way and then overpay. You get what I mean? If you haven't already seen it, please see our video on how we paid off our mortgage in 7 years. That teaches the foundational things that I believe you're asking about. We don't want to repeat those here hence the focus on the business/side hustle end. Also worth mentioning that Pam is not pitching a business. You or anyone can contact her if you're interested in who she is and what she does, but we'd suggest focusing on the ideas shared and actually taking steps to implement them. That would be a win for us 😊

@anirudhasengupta87 3 жыл бұрын
you can also choose to "invest" the over-payments and get (potentially) higher returns as the lending-rates are historically low. I think mortgage is a "good" debt. What do you think buddy?

yup I've already watched the video before!! I am on a 13 year mortgage and payments are already very high for us (did not go for the box standard 25 years). We went for the shorter term as we are not savvy savers, and thought the higher monthly payments would be a forced saving for us!!
@jakeartis955
@jakeartis955 3 жыл бұрын
Typically an index fund would return 10% so assuming that the interest was 3% they'd gain 7% on their investment. People are more likely to go bankrupt from overpayments on their mortgage
@anirudhasengupta87
@anirudhasengupta87 3 жыл бұрын
@@jakeartis955 saying "going bankrupt" is a bit extreme isint it? Look at it this way, the majority of the UK population does not save or live from pay-check to pay-check. Those who do, well most of them save in cash ISAs (the 2019 numbers are now now published so you can check them out). The proportion of people who do have a higher risk tolerance (and by higher i mean put savings not in cash) is extremely small. So the suggestion to pay of mortgage as quickly as possible means to a larger audience - 1. Saving on that 3% rate, 2. Saving in general, 3. House is not-liquid, so probability of accessing this is minimum, 4. Since you are putting all your money on your house, there is no cash left for something like getting a merc on a lease (again saving a lot of money). So for the majority of people, not having bad debt (credit cards etc) is probably good enough!!
