This is a CSP (Concentrated Solar Power) plant. And these days some of CSP plants were closed due to cost-efficiency issues compared to Photovoltaic Power plants.

Mirrors should be mounted on posts tall enough for people to walk beneath to use that area as partially shaded, productive agricultural land and using water with no chemicals to clean the panels then drips off to be agricultural watering.

With so little mechanical movement to the system, it seems like there wouldn't be much for maintenance costs? Maybe repairing some mirrors after a hail storm? That alone seems like it would beat the cost of gas. Expensive upfront costs, but it's free energy after that.

People think that Elon Musk is the best inventor at this decade, but here is this guy, storing heat in rocks. Every scientist know that a lot of heat is required for melt a rock but no one thinking to use it for storing it. Bravo sir!!

Hydrogen? Really? After all the losses from conversion to and from electricity why would you bother? You end up with at best 30% of the power you put in. Wouldn't you make more money selling 50% more power from the same input over intercontinental power lines? Seriously guys HVDC cables are the way to go, only 5% loss over 1000km. Linking the worlds power grids would be a more effective solution, no need for grid scale batteries either if you can simply buy it from the continent next door that's still in daylight / highwinds. I'm not even factoring in the massive amount of energy needed to compress the gas to 300 atmospheres, or the rare earth catalysts needed for hydrogen production that would need to be procured either.. Other than that, hotrocks are definitely a good solution. But I hope you're using a Supercritical carbon cycle to catch all that power and not an inefficient steam turbine.

I have been following alternative energy for a long time and this is hand's down one of the best systems I have ever seen. I just wish you had given figures for how many Megawatts one of those large scale plants could generate/roughly how many homes. I get the superheated rocks, aka molten salt. Where you loose me a bit is the distribution of energy through Hydrogen over distance. Better explanation of how exactly that works would have been helpful.

Finally an invention that works and people that understand the way the world uses electricity.

Eureka , I really feel like this IS a eureka video for the planet’s climate problem . Here is what I like . #1 The mirrors vs solar or the mirrors vs nuclear is a no brainer . The mirrors win on many different levels . I don’t feel an argument is required . #2 The rocks are used as batteries . WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK , ROCKS AS BATTERIES ? ! ? ! ? A question I have is when converting the rock energy to hydrogen , will a water shortage also become another problem answered or addressed ? Somebody , ANYBODY , maybe Elon Musk please make this happen ! This is right up there with landing men and women on Mars . I would gladly quit my job as a bus driver , to make this happen .

First of all, I really appreciate these videos. They're interesting, entertaining, and have excellent production quality. I have some comments on this one for constructive purposes: It would have been helpful to see how they heat the rocks, and then how they convert that thermal energy to electricity. The competitor to beat is solar PV panels. Can this tech compete economically? The ending message is somewhat contradictory. First, they propose that there will be a handful of 'producer' areas (SW USA, Australia, northern Africa, etc) and the rest of the world are 'consumer' areas in an interdependent network. Immediately after, they advocate the importance of producing energy near where we need it. If this system is used to generate green hydrogen, what's the point of the rock vault that stores thermal energy?

Very exciting, extremely well done production however i left slightly confused, Id really like to know more about the conversion of this source into electricity, the rocks is super interesting but need more info about their conversion to practical energy as well as the hydrogen. Maybe it deserves another video because this was very well done, I also enjoyed it, great infotainment

All very noble but in the end of the day, this is a business like any other. Then there is this vision of putting this in few locations and distributing the energy to those who need it, well... these locations could in theory stop providing just as easily as nations who control fossil fuels. Then there is the hydrogen, that´s a whole different topic which I think is a bad idea (for small scale use like powering cars and such).

people already tried this and failed. because regular solar panels are cheaper and less risky. and the wars are not fought for oil. they are fought for taking control over power. once the power is not oil anymore, people will fight for whatever it is.

If it's possible to make a damn cheap, but strong mirror that doesn't require much maintenance, with inexpensive materials, then this can absolutely become a thing.

wow, this could be used for desalinization plants. I'd like to see this replace conventionally powered plants on the US West coast, with pipelines carrying the purified water to the interior where we are currently in a deep, prolonged drought. This would stop the states from battling over the Colorado River. Aim the beam right at a water tank and allow the steam to collect, pump the pure water directly into depleted aquifers and there is no need to build storage.

Literally just saw a video on a plant like this where the mirrors were slightly off & it set the whole thing on fire & because the mirrors move there are many more parts to manage & points it can breakdown & that a regular solar field is less efficient but far less costly to maintain...I'm betting on these new small nuclear reactor SMRs. Seem safer & more economical, sounds bueno to me.

Really confused why they need to track the sun via cameras. The Earth’s tilt and rotation are fixed. We can look up the solar elevation and azimuth for any date and time. These could be fully automated by just following a clock and lookup tables. Also would’ve liked to see how heat is converted to hydrogen in this system.

I love this idea because it’s one that the oil industry can’t kill. It’s the purchase of land, mirrors, rocks, and steel tanks. How can you kill that?

When I started speaking to the hearing of people at my adolescent and teens age,I was taught seriously not to speak up for myself if I get into any trouble,be it a conflict or a simple injury I was inflicted with and the method used were sever whipping and lashing with wipes either woods,crap metals or other heavy artillery.Even when I had an eye injury which have left me handicap today I couldn't tell what really resulted to the injury to my parents given that I would face very hot punishment equivalent to the injury to my eye which I had to hide so as not to bring more pain to myself.I have to go hungry when am not feed and so were how things were for me and each time I raise any topic about myself then I get to dance its tones which results to me having several illnesses like fever, headache,joint pains etc.This practice of beating me up were held in high standards by my parents and siblings together with their friends and well wishers and I was given extra hard duties to perform with other various tasks known to have killed many I grew up knowing.I get to own very few things and I sleep with no comfort with various pests and rodents attacks which broke my then weak tissues.I had to get ahead of my class due to the immersed situation I was taken into and they'll only guarantee my safety if I did well in school in whatever class I might find myself which equally adds more loads to the burdens back then on my time list and checks.To help matters get worst,I did have little time for myself so I don't get much around people to know them more so as to ask them to help me and that marked the gross conducts to which I took and see that life hanged on my balance.The people I grew up with took blissfulness as their social well and behavioral synthesis from which all types of various convectional conductive radiation was springed into me with enigma which I have only to be a part of as there were no where else to go who might accept me I know of till,this all have made me to hate the family I came in from and I had to work hard to rewrite all the DNA I have in relationships with them and equally remove it's RNA stimulus so as not to be part in what being part of them can report to and it was very time consuming with great pains which stopped me from responding to the actions and activities as required from this class of people.I had to endure some of the benefits enjoyed by being in this group and I also need not to take any of their heritage as presumed I would someday because I haven't shown much to do when it comes I work as their family member and I pose no threat to them given that I show minimal approach in any matters concerning them which they now tap into to use against me and terminate me forever so that their timeline would still continue in the lineage which is now never possible.I now only subcontract those jobs they needed done to others who get well paid to do the dirty works and then they also get to answer their son,dauther,brother,sister etc which I know wouldn't help the lives of everyone and can under task suicidal attempts to the targeted individuals.I was kidnapped and tortured which I have to endure it horrors and it haven't been ones I have to suffer from various illness including post traumatic stress disorder,this kidnapping was done by militants,cultists,household members etc and they all made their demands which was granted to them before my release.I also see that when this culprit were even caught red handed,they find their way back into the society without suffering for the crimes they have done with only minimal sentences served.I also have to work around their watch since the didn't get served and they also plan on how to have me kidnapped more often when the see me and this makes them to use drastic forces to force me around where they would find it easier to negotiate terms on how they are to release me and that includes forced labour etc.I seem to them as someone that needs correction when they don't like to be corrected not for any reason and they try as much as possible to correct me when or however am found. In as much as I have been in serious hard times I don't get considered when it happens to taken as so but I can only say now that that alot have been accomplished by me which rarely any random person wouldn't say he or had done which have made me a professional in my field from my continuous hardwork, dedication and encouragement I get in the streets.I know countless people who really wants to succeed like me and have taken extra measure to get by things in there everyday life where they had to put more efforts to make ends meet but still from natural circumstances they couldn't and can't overwork their heart beat due to life challenges and that marks them notably to me because they themselves try much as possible to really see out for themselves and get whatever the want without much reliance from the outside world which on the process they get exploited only to regain themselves when the take my professional outlook in comparison to what the are up to and currently doing.I also know what people are planning right before the start to think about it or in the process in planning them and I have also known that I don't fall into nice plans in what the have on going in their life which would undermine my own life.i have to work extra time so as not to fall into the traps set by people in other to lay down on me heavy drastic blows they all have been planning on me which to them the see as a way to get things done for themselves and also make head ways in life.As presumed,I get to take more efforts to make quick discussions when I see that am at risk from where I found myself given the line of study I took in schools and this keeps me ahead of time most times in short notices.I equally have to keep track of all the notification I get when being delayed in various circumstances and I only conclude that it might be due to the scarce resources.Am equally prone to be in a fight one way or the other from the various challenges that come to me which would first require my personal skill in combat if I was to survive that same moment and I try to give back more to necessitate a quick recovery for myself.I equally take myself not fit for any job as long as it requires a steady state in terms involvement which when taken I equally get into trouble in understanding who am to answer to as the case might be because people take their various work places as a place where the can utilize the small earned economy they have on them to tackle other who fall lower in their ratio of work to payment in.There are equally very isolated areas around my neighborhood where people are kidnapped and taken to,to be tortured and beaten up before the can be sert free after a certain ransom have been taken and in this locations widely used as cover up lands for government officials resident areas where those seen as keeping guard so that the land wouldn't be tampered by anyone gets the upper hands when it comes to the illicit jobs going on this areas.Though the have been caught one way or the other but the use some kind of mysterious means to get themselves out and back to the business of slaying people and causing horrifying tragic moments in peoples lives.The places which have several aboundoned cars and uncompleted building serve as what is used to hide the illicit drugs being use to make those hardened criminals more lucrative and also weapons of various kinds which are stored with great care and shows no tangibility that it would spoil by any means naturally or artificially, aboundoned properties also make a very nice location to hide much more of this groups actions when it comes to their artilleries or human resource.It equally gets more difficult when government officials who gets too greedy takes part in masking this criminal activities up through the provision of a safe heaven to them if they happen to draw much attention to themselves by giving them clues about state arrests or the current internal broadcast on the plans to work them out of the job the have taken.It is taken taken that criminals who can mastermind various illicit activities and actions to its full accomplishment are to held in high regards in various topic raising locations in various states and when they equally take part in them,they are seen as modern day Robin hood and given more high notes and awards than any other person.This have made alot of people create more means to kill more people using acts of neglect, carelessness and other various misconduct so that the can be used as topic points anywhere.People from other African countries who have dual citizenship creates more problems to us within the country.The do that by out smarting various people of their position in various work places and tracking down the activities of others so as to steal their properties when the happen not to be aware.The are equally well funded by their main country and the take out country as being inferior which makes them to perform various activities and actions as relative to gangs which includes buying drugs off the market and storing them till the expire or the just dispose them off without making use of it so that when someone falls sick and trys to ask for his medicine,he or she would be told that the medicine is out of stock and he ought to wait for a stock to come.

Are "the big players" going to allow them to do this? I would say no because they lose control. Who controls energy controls the world. I wish them luck anyway.
