I'm 23 years old and I have autism. I enjoy Disney movies till this day like the lion king, Hercules, Tarzan, the black cauldron, toy story, ratatouille, and zootopia the most. But my favorite cartoon is My Little Pony: friendship is magic.

Why does everyone make Autism sound like it's the Bubonic Plague: just because we're different, DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE LESS!
@bhanupratapsingh87845 жыл бұрын
It definitely is a plague if not taught to deal with people and situations as it is case with most of autistic kids who don't get proper guidance at right time

I think the reaction depends on the functionality level of the child in question. If you're high functioning you can essentially function the same as the average neurotypical, but there are also those on the Spectrum who are essentially act like toddlers and require long term care. I'm guessing the parents are worried how their son will be able to live independently if he can't communicate. If they hadn't made the connection to Disney, who knows how he would have turned out.

I have 17 grandchildren. Five are autistic. The oldest is high functioning just graduated highschool accepted to Florida state. His was Jurrasic Park films. The next is in middle school he was brought out and spoke for first time sitting on my lap watching Curious George at age 4. The youngest there are all siblings. The older two started speaking because of Iron Giant. Their first understandable play and words were Giant Robot. The youngest her breakthrough was a movie called Ferngully and the Tinkerbelle series. Say what you will about those movies. The kicker for me was I and my daughters have now heard 3 words from their children no amount of therapy ever gave us. They were "I LOVE YOU" followed by either Mama or Nana or Gammy. Nothing in the world except seeing them born compares with that.

This is so relatable as an ESE teacher and a mother of child with Autism I have experience almost everything that Owen and his Dad experience. My son started with Winnie the Pooh, Lion King, Bambi, to Charlie Brown and now at Star Wars and Mr. incredible and he watches these movies over and over, but this is how I got him to have a conversation! Like Owen my son regressed after 32 months of meeting every developmental milestone!

This is lovely. Disney has helped so many of us when we were children but this is just speechless.

...and how. Even though important life lessons that Disney films are expected to teach were unfortunately a bit too subtle for me to learn from despite growing up with them, I figure he could have actually benefited from them in order to engage in social interaction with the world around him more appropriately in ways that ABA therapy sessions can't, which are the experiences that those on the spectrum are often expected to go through.

My 7 year old autistic son learned to talk by watching TV and movies. At first he could only repeat lines from show he liked, but then he started to replace certain words with his own to better fit the situation. Now he says a lot of things that aren't clearly from a show, and he keeps picking up new things from TV. So much for TV being bad for kids, my son wouldn't be talking as well as he does without it.

As an immense Disney Animation fan with Autism, this is beyond relatable to me. In fact, I actually think that if I got to hold a conversation with the person, we'd still be there a week after the convo started.

I’m an Autistic- officially diagnosed as a kid, but my parents and doctors withheld the diagnosis from me! I didn’t know I was an Autistic until five years ago, through discovering some old medical records (I’m 60 now)! I was always taught that “special interests” or obsessions of any kind were wrong and it’s better to develop as many interests as possible! in fact, it took two movies that I saw (Fatal Attraction and Play Misty For Me) to convince me that I was wrong in engaging in my obsessions! Obsessions do not help Autistics - they make them rigid, stubborn and closed instead! Better to teach them how to develop new and more interests- it will help them learn how to become more normal!

I also have Autism but mine is High Functioning. I am an ongoing huge fan of Alvin and The Chipmunks franchise (Movies, their 3 Tv Shows, toys, etc) I know most of their lines and some of their songs. It also inspired me for when I grow up, I want to become an Voice Actress. P.S this video is very relatable to me.

I am not autistic but I do have have DD Disorder (Developmentally Delayed Disorder) I didn't use it like all these people below but I may get to live in an assisted living facality. I have a really good friend who is (slightly) Autistic. He sometimes get into fits sometimes but when he isn't he is just a regular teenager. It's similar to this, His dad is a electrical engineer (Right now he is making prothstetic limbs for people in Guatemala) Anyway He pushed his autism away by doing electronics in which he makes robots with sensors. I like how I make friends with peers that I can look up to.

Why do they keep saying “breaking through” autism? They’re acting like having autism is a death sentence or something
@jeannehall654614 күн бұрын
It is. I should know- I’m an Autistic and knowing that I’m different and why has made me ashamed! Normal people don’t like anything that is different- it scares them! The phrase “Be yourself” is really a lie! Better to teach Autistics not only life and social skills, but cultural skills as well!
