Video notes
MrBeast's squid game is a tribute to the original Korean Netflix show, Squid Game. In this video we are going to breakdown the tactics he used to get 100 million views in a matter of days. He beat the youtube algorithm.
The first thing he did was focus on the storytelling and editing
Then he made sure his thumbnail was irresistible to viewers to get 100 million views
And finally, he built a great promotion campaign around his video.

“Give them bread and circuses, and they will never revolt.” ~Juvenal You’d be wrong if you didn’t think that KZfaq not only helped financed Mr. Beasts video, but manually promoted his content in the algorithms as well. You give Mr. Beast way too much credit. Obviously he has a plethora of people that help make his unpalatable mindless content so successful to the Simpletons. Unfortunately society has reached critical mass with delusional feebleminded consumers.

One thing this video missed was that Mr.Beast specifically hired youtubers to make pieces of sets, as well as be a part of the games. He did this because he knows they will create KZfaq videos about their experience working with the Mr.Beast Squid Game... which will inevitably make the viewers of these videos want to check out the real thing themselves. Its genius. He couldve hired X company to make the doll.. but instead he hired youtubers to make the doll which they made a KZfaq video about making it (500k views for them). This ensured he would get more clicks from that youtubers audience. Jimmy really is the KZfaq goat.

As someone with a background in film and video production, I think you nailed this analysis. One of my pet peeves in watching KZfaq videos is that most creators take forever to get into the meat of the content. I typically end up skipping 2 -5 minutes just to get to the point of the video.

Do a search for "Making MrBeast’s Squid Game in 10 Days" by the channel SoKrispyMedia. They were the production crew that did most of the video work; I bet you'll really get a kick out of their behind the scenes video.

Pace preference is also personal and cultural. Hyper fast editing in KZfaq videos can be equally off putting for others who prefer a different kind of pace. The current cultural climate is also accelerating demand for fast paced editing, what with tiktok doing stimulation hits in 15 seconds or whatever. Story telling and character development can suffer from these rapid cuts and as illustrated here also can enduce fatigue. Another thing to keep in mind is Mr.Beast at this point has a large team of professional editors and directors. Most KZfaqrs are either editing solo or may be able to afford one or two people. We can see what money does to production quality. Beem Team has some serious money behind it. The launch of that channel wasn't just some good ideas, it's got financial power behind it to make things like gifting a car possible.

Great analysis! Something else you missed is how he timed the cuts in the first 16 seconds with the music. The music itself already creates tension on its own due to it's minor key. Add on the factor it's music from Squid Game. Then the rhythmic cuts that match the beat to match the tension and given an overview of what's to come to show that this was the real deal. You've earned a subscriber!

Actually one other thing you forgot is how Jimmy draw the viewer's in is by making people believe they have a chance to be in a future video regardless how slim those chances may actually be. What I mean is by randomly selecting 456 people to play, he made opportunities for people to make money because everyone there left with 2k cash regardless and free hotel, food and travel. He basically turned a KZfaq video into a high quality game show that airs on TV lol.

Yeah, after that video I watched some of his other content and to me he looks like a pretty successful game show host, without the limitations of having to work for a cable network. Jimmy (Mr. Beast) is a die hard metrics nerd. From the time he started producing videos, he has obsessed over analyzing metrics and what makes a video get clicks and maintain attention. His success isn’t luck or talent, it is intentional and gained through his obsession with analyzing and creating the perfect KZfaq videos. There are a number of videos where he discusses the depth of his obsession and just how far he will go to create what he thinks will be the next mega-viral video.

Even after spending ALL that money - and taking all that time to build sets and film - he still posted it all in one video!!! Not a series of episodes and not a paid series - just one free video! That’s such a gift 🤩 people don’t want to wait for anything - like you said! and I would’ve totally been happy and understood if they bragged about the sets ALL throughout the video 😅 like “holy shit look at this look at what we made so crazy” - but they just play Squid Game and let the sets speak for themselves!! It’s the fact that these people are so fun to watch as they play the games AND the production value is through the roof that makes this video top quality!! Give MrBeast a Netflix show!!!

What's really genius about the bridge game is that it goes on for so long that by the time its done, the video is nearly over. It almost makes you think for a moment that the challenge might just end there as you're watching the red bar at the bottom of the video progress, because its not THAT uncommon for Jimmy to do a bit of fluff at the end of his videos. And people who aren't regulars of Mr. Beast don't know that he times just ends videos almost immediately after the challenge is over.
