How Much Adblue Does a FIAT DUCATO Use?
In this video we discuss Adblue; tank capacity, typical mileage between top ups & the different warnings you get before running out. Also, with 2 year service intervals, just when do you change the oil on a Fiat Ducato based Motorhome?

My Merc Vito does about 2500 miles on 5 litres of adblu, used to do 5000 miles before a 10 litre top up was needed but since it had the software update due to emissions test fiddling the warning comes up when the tank is only half empty. If you ignore the warning for a few hundred miles you eventually get a countdown of about 400 mile until it won't start. Running about 3.2T gross with 190hp engine.

That is interesting. Yes our T6 went in for a “software update” and VW gave us a piece of paper to cover 5 (I think) free top ups because the usage would increase. 1500 miles is the lowest I’m aware of.

@LiveforTravel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for the support. The Ducato (at least the 2020 model we own) does not give any indication to how many miles are left or what amount of Adblue you need to top up. I would suggest as it has a 19.5 litre capacity and the warning comes on with between 400-500 miles remaining, it is likely it will have between a quarter to a third of a tank left. Therefore it “should” take 10 litres but I haven’t actually done this so wouldn’t want you to spill any excess as it makes a horrible crystallised mess of the bodywork (although it washes off). We now look for petrol stations (roughly every 1k miles) that have an Adblue pump. It is sooooooo much easier to refill 😊👍

Word of warning on Adblue. Although I dont 'yet' have a Motorhome (we are I have to the market and looking for one now) I have a Volvo XC60 which has been my first car with Adblue. I have 1650 miles countdown when my Adblue first signals to fill Adblue and I was regularly driving for around 100 miles after that before topping up. Several months later I had the Engine Management Light come on, took it into Volvo, who identified the jets had become crystalised because I had run the car once the refill warning came on, but it told me I had 1650 miles I could drive before I couldnt restart!! Therefore I now refill almost immediately as soon as the warning light comes on.

Interesting. Now we know the average expected miles before the top up we are filling up (at petrol stations that have an Adblue Pump (not the cheapest way but definitely more convenient)) every 1K miles. Thanks for watching the video and for your comments.

V informative. Thanks. My Ducato was new July 2020 (Euro6) and has now (June 2021) done just 5100 kms. Before reaching that km-age I tried several times to top up Adblue to no effect. At 4000 kms it gulped 4 lts. At 5000 it gulped 10 lts (to full). Going in shortly for service so I shall have to ask what the mechanic considers "normal" consumption. BTW the Spanish printed manual says Adblue capacity is 19 lts. There is a much longer manual available as PDF but it has no further info on Adblue.

Interesting. I've got a 2020 PVC (Dreamer D60 Fun) with a 160bhp manual. Caught me out a couple of times with the adblue warning light - most recently on Lewis and Harris a few weeks back where I had to search a few petrol stations before I found one with a single 10L container (for nearly £30!!!). So I did a bit of research and found a table which claims to document the indicative usage of adblue per 1000km (625 miles) for different use cases. For a Camper / Motorhome the numbers are Urban / Extra urban up to 3.5L Highway up to 7.0L Mixed route average 4.0L. So driving a long way on the motorway and high speed A roads / dual carriageways is gonna put a big dent in your adblue. Given that the warning light seems to be coming on when just over half a tank is used that could easily happen at 1300 miles...On the oil and filter topic. Totally agree. Just had mine done (at around 7600 miles) at a Fiat Professional dealership - it was just shy of £200 so you might want to explore other options if that is not for you. My plan is to take it back to them in 18 months when it can get a full service and MOT (it will be 3 years old). Anyone know of a small (3 or 4L) container than could be used to carry a backup supply of adblue - I don't fancy getting caught out somewhere remote again, it hurt to pay over double what I normally pay.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 2 жыл бұрын
The Adblue usage as quoted to me by Fiat is on average 1 litre per 100 miles so on a 19.5 litre tank that equates to approximately 2000 miles per tank. I agree with you that it is very much dependent on type of roads, driving style etc. We keep a look now for petrol stations that sell Adblue at the pump. Was .99 pence the last time we found one. Personally, £200 is expensive for an oil and filter change but we have now found a local, reputable, commercial vehicle service garage local to us that is more competitive.
@ukgroucho
@ukgroucho 2 жыл бұрын
@@LiveforTravel Just to be clear. The table I found is (apparently) a Fiat document - I just decanted the camper / motorhome stuff from it (it also included ordinary vans and also vans with refrigerated bays). This was labelled as a Fiat Professional document... I can try to link it but I don't think I can post the image.
@ukgroucho
@ukgroucho 2 жыл бұрын
Ohh on the service cost.. yeah but my strategy is to have them do the full service (and MOT) in 18 months... after that the 3 year warranty is done and I find a local reputable dealer. i want no quibbles during warranty. Always been my approach - a bit of cash that protects ANY dispute about a warranty claim is worthwhile.

@LiveforTravel

The pipe is quite a tight fit so it should just stop filling. However, if you take the average of 100 miles per litre of Adblue (depending on driving style and use) we just go and use an Adblue pump at a petrol station that has one and put 10 litres in roughly every 1000 miles. Thanks for watching and your feedback.

My Fiat Ducato 2021 180 hp the light was on after 750 miles so we filled it up with fuel and added 5 litre adblue and after 450 miles the adblue light was on again ! so our consumption is around 500 miles per 5 litres so consumption is = to around 1 litre per 100 miles, we had to do this to check consumption, we have now added total of10 litres each time we fill up with diesel ! dealer can not find any fault !! Fiat best start fitting a bigger adblue tank and advise users of the qty consumption is very high, the van has not done 1500 miles now.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. Our VW Transporter T6 could drive 5k and it had a countdown odometer so you knew how much was left. Your consumption is spot on with Fiat as they said it has a 19.5 litre tank so, if the first warning gives you around 450-500 miles remaining then it does around 1 litre for each 100 miles. Apparently it is a double whammy as the fuel tank was reduced in size to accommodate the Adblue tank! Thanks for watching and your comments which are helpful to other viewers too.

Not sure what this video actually achieves. To say a Fiat Ducato has a 19.5Ltr ad blue tank and then say the warning light comes on after 1300 miles indicates a very alarming 6.6 miles per litre! I would humbly suggest a more in depth study. For the record my Fiat D does over 354 miles per litre fully loaded.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 11 ай бұрын
What it achieves is fact. Fact from Fiat technical in Italy. The van will do (depending on driving use) approximately 2000 miles. My maths make that a little over 100 miles per litre. If your van does more that’s lovely. I humbly suggest that fact however is just that. Even your own calculation (which is flawed) has the decimal point in the wrong place. 1300 (incorrect as only the warning light comes on. Not the tank being empty) comes in at 66.66 miles per litre. 1300 divided by 19.5 = 66.66.
@allinadayscyclingscotty5602
@allinadayscyclingscotty5602 11 ай бұрын
@@LiveforTravel But don't you think that just 2000 miles on what you, or Fiat claim, is a 19.5Ltr tank is a tad questionable? You may claim it as 'fact' but hopefully others will do a tad more research before reaching a decision. Ad blue is not overly expensive and hopefully helps our environment but if my vehicle only achieved the figures you claim I would be highly suspect.
@LiveforTravel
@LiveforTravel 11 ай бұрын
I don’t ‘claim’ anything. No more research is required. Fiat build the van, I drive it. Our van warned us at 1300 miles and had achieved approximately 100 miles per litre of Adblue.
