How much can you cook on a Yoder Smoker? Considerations for capacity cooking.

Filling a smoker to capacity is good however what considerations should you take into account? Layout, temperature control and air flow comments from BBQ Brian of House of Q on a YS1500.

Somewhere around 10-12 hours.

Not sure if you will see this, where did you get those cool looking handles for the pellet lid and chamber lid

Well, this unit is a custom YS1500. It has different handles and a fire/flame wrap on the cart. I added an LED light system under the cart once I received it. :-) good eye by the way!

How did you get your ys so clean? Do you pressure wash the inside? The grates looked brand new.

I just tried cleaning my grates off my ys640 using some grate cleaner and it worked alright, but I had the same idea you had to use a pressure washer so I’m gonna have to give that a shot

Just a quick question for you, only because I wasted $3,000.00 on pellet oven. Does the 1500 actually smoke or do u need smoke tubes

Hi Bob. It's BBQ Brian here replying... smoke is subjective and should be considered an "ingredient" in the process of cooking. Some like 4 or 5 cups of pepper on their brisket meanwhile other may only want a tablespoon or two. This all said, House of Q has won world championships using a Yoder Smoker YS1500 - so the judges like the flavor!!

No judgement here...I wont put more than 15 on my 120 gallon which has one 56x24 and one 56x18 grate. Just dont see how you could get adequate air flow to get an even cook. Again no judgement

Landon, I think thats the oversight... airflow is a requirement for a good cook to occur. This is clearly too many PB's for this size of cooker. Can you? Sure... Should you? no, not really....

What are you doing with so much meat at one time? Selling? To who and how much can you get and where do you advertise? If not then what? Freeze?

Likely a charity cook for a fundraiser. Pulled pork freezes and re-heats very well.

Jonathan Alvey it came from the plant that way! My older one had a custom sign. Since it came that way, I'd guess factory standard?

How long did this cook for? Each done at separate times?

Jordan, I don't recall the specifics however if I was to do it again today, I'd plan for about 8-10 hours duration. Once the pork reaches 170 F or so, they would have been wrapped to finish more quickly. I hope that helps.
